I don't normally play the money game, I'm looking for useful ideas to increase performance. Reducing inertia is one way of increasing engine performance. I will tell you other than the weight reduction and a very modest increase in power in the mid rpm range which actually dies off at the peak, they may not be worth it. It's very hard t ofind any useful data but is out there, but so is the bs data.
Power steering helps my driver react quickly in a wreck situation, has it helped us? Hard to say but we've never totally wadded up a car (touch wood).
We'll keep looking for other ways to increase performance as well and yes handling is always on top of the list

I cant beleive how many people run power steering. Dump the weight, the cost, and all of the problems associated with it.

if you do it right, and use the right stuff, there is little weight (in the grand scheme of the whole car omg a whole 20lbs) and no problems if done right. For the little HP loss, like 2 HP for running that little pulley for PS is nothing in the overall spectrum

manual box just lets you feel the track more, how many use it? alot, almost everyone uses power steering anymore, hell even the super late model i ran for pass south had a power steering rack and pinion setup. manual box seems to be the old style and some use it still, the weight is nothing compared to somethings in the cars.

I guess the pulley thing was kind of a clouded issue. We couldn't find allot of justification in spending that kind of dough. Most of the websites are pretty vague about savings and some I think lied and inflated performance results. So I guess the only question that remains is are aluminum pumps legal, as our cast iron HD water pump leaks a little when the engine is cold 😮

Call the track and get it in writting as I am sure it will be an issue before the season closes in 2010
