18t keep up the right one suggest though, if any member of upnorth is picked for jury duty when it comes time for deliberations hang the jury and write a note with bill203 on it try some peaceful civil disobedience. silverstone this bill has very little to do with streetracing, it comes from the same type of idiots that gave use the gun registry, guns and cars do not kill people people kill people.outlaw street racing simple get the opp to do the job not the government to do it for them. your comments sound like they come from the same process that led to "they really are just showers" in the late 30s and early 40s in europe.
PS. Just for the record, It is not John Tory that has presented this bill. 🙂
Tory says anyone exceeding the speed limit by 50 kilometres an hour or more should be classified as a street racer
He has also made it very clear in his current campaign that this is something high on his priority list.
I never said that he presented it or concocted it, I simply said that he wants it implemented.
The scariest part of this entire thing is that you don't even have to be doing anything illegal, an officer just has to think that you may did or eventually do something illegal and they can suspend your licence and impound your vehicle BEFORE you are proven guilty of an offence. I have been pulled over numerous times in my completely stock vehicle because an officer thought that it was modified, if the bill passes that same officer would be able to impound and possibly destroy my vehicle because they *think* that it is modified for illegal activity. Then what? my 2 year old vehicle that is completely stock is already gone, my licence is already suspended, even if I go to court it doesn't change the fact that I lost my ability to drive (and therefor work) and had my vehicle taken away from me that I am still paying for (finance).
This brings up another question. What if it is a leased vehicle and they crush it weather or not it was used for illegal activity. The person leasing the vehicle doesn't even own it and has to return it after a previously determined period.
The only possible answer to all of this is education. People need to learn what is acceptable and what isn't. People need to learn that it is not cool to race on the streets, but the current government campaigns and news articles don't do this very well.
Regardless what you drive, even if it is a '85 Hyundai Excel, it is capable of speeds faster then the posted limits. Sadly, most of these street racers will be racing on public roads regardless if their vehicles are modified or not, it is their character, not the vehicles that they are driving.
See OPGJL, this is where the confusion comes in, I did not read anywhere in 203 about destroying, or crushing cars. The crushing cars idea came from O.P.P commissioner Julian Fantino. It was said purely to get the medias attention. Fantino has absolutely no legislative power. Even John Tory Cannot pass his 50kph rule without support of his party and some opposition members too. The truth is that ALL of the major political parties have ideas on street racing, because it is a problem that has to be dealt with. If you guys are against street racing, maybe you should share your ideas of how to combat it, and the penalties that should be enforced, to your local M.P.P. If your club was to do it collectively, and convey who you are, and what you stand, I am sure you would get some attention. As for John Torys idea, at least it is fair, because you have to be caught doing 50kph over before they can impound your vehicle. I do not see the problem with that. If some yahoo decides to drive down my street (50kph limit) at 105kph, while my kids are playing, then their car should be impounded and their licence should be suspended for seven days! People seem to forget that the ability to drive, is a privilege, and not a right. when you abuse privileges, they SHOULD be taken away!
so does this mean that they can come seize my racecar for the track or does it have to be licensed for the road???? I have heard a little bit about the bill as I am studying law at college!
