The sun sets on the 2010 Delaware racing season.

Its late....we hung around and listened to the River Junction Band for a bit, and wandered about saying our goodbyes for the season. Hence getting in late and needing to work in the morning.
Most of the nights events have been covered on the Delaware page, but I'll touch on a few things here for those that weren't there.
Super Stock - Wow...easily the best race of the night. 11-Lidster and 28-Lawrence came into the night tied with 84-Smith only 6 pts back, and the three of them just fought tooth and nail throughout the feature...all 3 of them running together for the most part. There was some bumping and beating, and both Lidster and 9-DeJesus might have had something to say to Kris aftet the race, but still, what a show.
The 74 won the feature. Who'd have thunk it? Al Bowman had Chad Rijnen as his jockey tonight and proved that the car can win.
Powerade/MRA Modified - 88-Shipway comes out and mounts a furious charge. He wants to win this thing for Mayor Mel and he does it well passing both inside and outside, finally getting by leader 54-Limon at about the halfway mark.
1-Newman was doing some shaking and moving of his own trying to catch Jamie Cox for some championship points. Move of the night had him take 3rd from Limon when they came up on lap traffic. Limon went high around the slower car, but left enough room for Newman to get a nose between and go shooting up the middle coming off of 2 and down the backchute. Pretty ballsy move in an open wheeler, and they managed to keep all 3 pointed the right way. Great stuff. The Mod race was awesome tonight.
NASCAR Late Model. Bit of a snoozer here. 81-Gresel grabs an early lead but it doesn't last long. Gresel is in the Sauble car (the yellow and burgundy one) and its not as fast as the regular 81 car. The regular one must still be out of commission after the 200. Other changeups had 20-Lindsay in the red Kennedy machine and 5-Christie driving Lloyd Rawlings' 69 machine renumbered. Both Robblees were absent, as was Kennedy.
By the 5th lap, 21-Pritiko is tucked in behind leader Gresel and patiently settles in and makes his move about the halfway mark. Gresel drops off at this point, and the only one who looks like he might have anything for Pritiko is 22-Ramsay and possibly 78-Watson.
Watson runs into trouble ending up spinning and bouncing off the fence in 3 so that, while not taking him out of the race, puts him out of the picture for the win. Ramsay stays with Pritiko but doesnt have enough to get by him. Great run by Pritiko, and congrats on his first ever feature win!
Demar Aggregates Trucks - Its happened once in the existence of the truck division, and it happened a second time tonight. About 20 mins after the initial green flag, and having only run 5 laps, the ENTIRE field is black flagged, parked and drivers are instructed to be at the tech garage in 5 minutes...presumably to be read the riot act. The festivities commenced with 1-Thompson sending 99-Koricina for a loop in turn 1 that collects 16-Rijnen too. Rijnen was none too happy with Thompson. Thompson and Koricina continue to whack on each other during the caution laps.
Then there's a 3 wide incident with Koricina, 17-Brydges and 15-Marche going through 3 and Bruydges and Marche end up spinning and Thompson runs into one of them.
Then Showler does his crazy 3 wide thing to bring out another one, and apparently 82-McCaw and 3-Gemmell are also caught up in stuff. Finally the powers that be just park the safety truck across the frontstretch and file everyone in the turn 4 pit entrance to park. Then they move along to the Super Stock feature while the truck guys (and girl) cool off.
At the front, 00-Johns has the lead in Sid's old 88 truck re-numbered 00, and the only one at the moment that has anything for him is 75-Dupuis, but Fothergill and Showler are on their way to the front when the whole-field black flag happens.
They run the Super Stock and LM features, then roll the trucks out to finish, except they have a new theme song this time - the "Cops" song. ("bad boys bad boys - whatcha gonna do?" etc)
Johns maintains his lead with Dupuis on his tail, until lap 8 when Showler muscles past Depuis and sets his sights on Johns. Then on lap 14 Johns blows a tire going into one and goes around to give Showler the lead.
Now Showler has to contend with Dupuis and Fothergill, however Fothergill seems to not have it for the leaders tonight. (tire going down maybe) More fun and games back in the field when 93-Koricina and 57-Triska decide they don't like one another and put on a little show of their own. Koricina has a tire let go but the two continue to whack on one another. Black flags for Triska and I'm pretty sure to Koricina too.
In the end, its Showler and Dupuis on the run, and thats how it ends with Fothergill in 3rd.
And Fothergill puts on a smoke show in turn 4 to celebrate his championship. Congrats to the 33 team.
Congrats to Ron Sheridan, Kris Lawrence, Paul Fothergill and Jamie Cox....your 2010 Delaware Champions!

Un sportsmanlike driving seemed to be theme in the SS and the Trucks. But Kharma had it's way LOL. I wanna take a moment here to thank our competitors for a great albiet bumpy season. We had a blast and we had some heartache...HEY it's RACING. Congrats to Kris Lawrence, I love this kid like he was my own and he deserved to win the Championship by vertue of points, ability, attitude, and determination. See yah next year folks!!!
Congratulations to all the champs.
Parkng the trucks way too little way too late should have done that with the trucks and lm early in the year.
My one big constructive recommendation for next year is simple make ALL reg races on a time limit and hold them to it and and get hard on these weapons that are destroying cars.
Can't wait for the new asphalt. (Yeah as if)
Spectacle of the night: Cole Powell's smoke show from turn 4 almost to turn 1. The tires were still hot when the features started!
I just want to give my personal congrats to all of this years track champions! I spent friday as a crew member for the Stephen Richmond. What a great team to work with! I must say that it was also great to be able to help out Matt and Darrell Lake with a problem they were having. On a different topic, Im happy to say that I wasnt part of that mess called a truck race. There seemed to be one or two that were only out there for one reason, and that wasnt to win! The super stock feature had a car many laps down actually blocking a 2nd place car!! This was clearly intentional, as it was the rookie battle, and I was just plain disgusted by it. Just my personal thoughts on the night.
