I ve been up all night looking in the rule book for this mysterious "Courtesy Caution Lap". Thus far, been unable to find it. I even checked page 28! and still can't find it. Some where the rule states that "If there is not a full field of cars, and a car enters the pits for a tire change/repair, and extra lap of caution will be granted to allow the team to make repairs"
I was also interested in finding the "He made a great save and kept his momentum" rule that was instituted earlier this year when Dan Delisle lost control, and caused a caution and was exempt from being an accident car. But alas, I also didn't see that rule in the rule book either. Which makes sense, because track officials clearly forgot that "Made a good save, and kept momentum" rule too when the 10 spun in turn four after his contact with a back marker and kept momemntum.
While I dont go to Delaware, the "courtesy lap caution" is a common "unwritten" rule at many local tracks,I know at varney the race director tries to watch cars being repaired in the pits and will even extend the yellow up to 3 laps if neccessary.
As for the "Made a good save, and kept momentum" was he avoiding a previous wreck? If that is the case, then most tracks will also allow you your spot back.If not, well who knows?? ???
It's the same at Delaware for the courtesy lap, which is definately a good thing because this isn't cup, sometimes one extra lap means one extra car to the back of the field when the green falls which is never a bad thing.
He wasn't avoiding a wreck, he was the caution, so in every case i've seen, if you are the reason for the caution you go to the back, I may have missed something earlier in the year, but if he was the caution, then he goes to the back, and I don't think the driver would argue that one because that's the way it has always been.
yea, at Varney when i got in my bad crash, we were trying to get me second gear and they gave us 2 extra laps and lucky enough we were able to grab the gear and go...I really appreciated as I had driven 2 hours and wrecked on lap 2 or 3....
Shadow - great report as usual, THANKS!
About the Chaos race... did Fred really miss completing the last 360degree barrel turn?

Ok, so maybe OPP was vindicated...this time. 😉
Regarding the Robblee ruling, a lot of the people on the hill laughed/groaned at that one. I don't have a problem with it for a regular show, and have seen it happen before. (just not with as much attention drawn to it) As far as Kennedy going to the back...well thats the rule: Accident cars go to the back. No bigger Kennedy fan than me either. That's the way it goes.
Once again, what I don't get, is when a driver, in this case Sheridan, knows damn well he's got a tire going down and keeps pushing anyway, and ends up taking himself out and another car with him. To me that's a delay of race too. It might not state it like that in the rulebook...but its the same thing in my eyes.
Regardless...excellent evening of racing.
