Had the chance to have myself a little road trip tonight. So...I fired up the car, turned the stereo over to KICX fm 106, and went over to Flamboro to watch their show. (fm 106 is Simon Wild's sponsor. If you like country music, which I do, then 106 is a great listen. Support those who support racers! [end/commercial])

Just thought everyone would like to know that Tyler Brown did awesome tonight! (I know it was at Flamboro, but I'm posting on the Delaware board...in the name of touting our own Friday night guys.)

He started on the pole, but had an iffy start, getting shuffled back to 5th at the green flag. He held onto that though and the top 5 put some distance between themselves and the rest of the field in the early going. Flamboro has a rule that starts the usual top guys in the middle of the field, so guys like Lyons, the Elliotts, Shaw, and Todd Campbell were having a pretty entertaining war all their own to get to the front.

After about the halfway point the top 2 guys, Laking-44 and Stewart-56 had contact in turn 2, spinning out and having to restart at the back of the field. The good news is this gets Tyler into 3rd place. The bad news is, now he's got multiple Flamboro Champ Scott Lyons-52 right behind him.

Here's the kicker though: Tyler held him off! They went somewhere between 10 and 15 laps with Lyons trying everything to get around Tyler, and Lyons couldn't make it happen. I think being able to hold a multiple champ off for that long is pretty darned impressive.

I went down to see them afterwards, not having met them before and they're real nice people. So, congrats to the Brown clan on a great 3rd place finish!

Here's a pic of Tyler on the backstretch. I'm pretty sure someone told me this is Adam Quarrie's car from last year.

This was the guy that won, Anthony Simone.

Also of possible interest to Delaware fans, a pic of Dave Silverthorne Jr at speed.

And one of Brad Collison, who used to race at Delaware.

And this is what happens when one mini stock spins out in turn 4, right in front of a 3 wide and 5 deep pack. (This was taken at night and photoshopped to be brighter)

And just to see how the other half lives...here's a Flamboro 4 cylinder open wheeler. Pretty funky.

What I thought was extra-cool, was that the announcers gave Delaware some props. When Tyler was up, they recognized on air that he was our rookie of the year last year. They also hyped the upcoming Grisdale Triple Crown race by talking at length about some of our "stars", such as Doug Stewart, Jamie Ramsay and "Rocket" Ron Sheridan. I just thought that was cool, like in the old days when the 2 tracks really worked together.

Guys, it was a fun night. You know I'm Delaware's number 1 homer, but Flamboro puts on a quality show too. Their Thunder Cars are great, LMs are exciting, and the Mini Stox are plentiful. Actually, the minis race in a style strangely like our truck division races. Lots of 3 wide, crazy action. So, if you've got a free Saturday night, you'll get a good show there.

Shadow out.

Yep, I think they were saying OSSCARs, Vintage Mods, Hurricane Midget and King of the Hill. Should be a good show too.

But...heh...my Mrs has indulged me in my race obsession enough for the weekend. Think we're going over to bro-in-law's for some suds and barbecue instead.
