Just for the record Db and Tigeraid , the 16 volt system isn't allowed this year.
Having discussed the full floater back in October I can tell yall it was not from the performance stand point that it was considered. The biggest consideration was safety and reliability. Having suffered the malady of a broken axle, we were extremely lucky to not have sustained more damage than we experienced. Much to my suprise the replacement axle was cracked and well on it's way to catastrophic failure, had I not found it night number three on that axle could have proven to be quite an eventful display. Our experience cost us $400 dollars and like I said we got off cheap.
I think the cost of modifying a stock 8.5" rearend to be SAFE and reliable is expensive. The upgraded 8.5" is still a comprimise at best as it will not prevent wheel loss in the event of axle flange failure. I am researching the cost of purchasing used equipment to do the swap. I think the cost will probably come out to pretty close to the same thing but we'll see.
I'm not taking a side to this issue or any other for that matter but I do like to develop a well informed decision on what changes to make and how they will affect us as team or the division as a whole. Sometimes I regret ever asking the question but the fact that I did leaves one to suspect things are as a clear as mud.
One other thing 16 volt systems are in my mind a cheat part, no car ever ran one from factory so how it was even allowed is beyond me. If you consider the rules how could it have been allowed?
Just an opinion from a guy who managed to keep his car in the top 10 running painfully within the rules as we always do, proving it can be done .

I know that, but how many people started to consider it once the 11 won the title and had one.

16 volt has been around for years, if people think he won the championship cus' of that they need to give their head a shake, heck, i had the 16 volt battery in the car in 05', and i know of atleast 1 car that had it in their long before i did. We ended up going back to an alternator in 06' when my charger got stolen.
Well if it doesn't help why bother spending the money?
