To Clarify a Few Rumors (Delaware)

Now that I am off on Christmas break and Delaware Speedway has made an announcement about their new Public Relations directions, I wanted to take a few moments and update everybody regarding my involvement at Delaware Speedway.

I have been fortunate enough to work at Delaware Speedway since I was thirteen years old,  as well as participate in the Junior Racing League program at that age.  Before I got my drivers license I was up in the broadcast tower running scoreboard, and later the computer points database.  By age seventeen I was able to begin announcing my first races.  In recent years I have been able to gain experience in many areas of the business I never would have been able to dream of when I first began, areas such as broadcasting, website development, and the launch of the DelaNET live-scoring system on competitor laptops to name a just few.  Not to mention, the amazing people that I have had the privilege to work with and meet over those years.

As I came to my fourth year of university, it became increasingly important to refocus my efforts - - and equally important for Delaware Speedway to evaluate its programs.  For the Speedway's part, they needed full time PR and marketing staff that could meet the changing needs of the business.  Because of my university commitments, this was an obligation I would have been unable to fulfill.

In 2010 I am proud and pleased to continue working with Delaware Speedway, as an announcer, as an instructor at our Wednesday Krown Junior Racing League program, and as the Ultimate Sandblasting Chaos Car Director for the third year of that program.  These are three areas I have always been especially proud of, and am happy for the opportunity to continue working in these areas.

The speedway has always been important to both myself and my family - - I would never wish to give up my involvement with the track.  My father (Paul) continues to be part of management and shares my enthusiasm in looking forward to an excellent season this year.

For Lisa Brandt and the crew at CPT, I wish you all nothing but the best success.  I look forward to working with you in anyway possible to continue to promote Delaware Speedway.

I want to thank those who sent messages and called me asking about what was going on.   I look forward to seeing you again in 2010.  If you have any questions I am happy to answer.

Thanks,

-John Houghton
