Racing on Friday night featured a 70-lap Coca-Cola Super Stocks feature, a 25-lap Demar Aggregates Trucks race and a 50-lap Bone Stock Chaos Car feature. With Labour Day Weekend approaching marking the final run towards the end of the racing season there was no lack of heat on the track or tension between drivers. Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin finished first in the Coca-Cola Super Stocks feature, Brady Smith (#39) of Coldstream won the Demar Aggregates Trucks feature and Ed Jaffery won in the Bone Stocks Chaos Car Feature.
The two-part 70-lap Coca-Cola Super Stock feature was won by Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin. Kris Lawrence (#28) of London led the first 35-laps of the race and finished first at the end of the first half. He rolled a dice and was inverted by 5 positions for the second half. This worked to Showler’s advantage as he was able to lead the second half to take the checkered flag. There was one caution on lap twelve with Shae Gemmell (#3) of Dorchester having to deal with a fire in his car, which was quickly taken care of by the Delaware Speedway safety crew during a red flag. Jeremy Reid (#76) of Kerwood placed second after a fierce battle with Brandon Verhoeven (#7) of Kerwood who finished third.
The Demar Aggregates Trucks & V8 Stocks feature, won by Brady Smith (#39) of Coldstream, was an intense competition. The first eleven laps were led by Adam Swales (#18) of St. Thomas, who badly wanted the win and fought for it until his truck fell behind Smith’s in lap twelve. Smith went on to win the feature but not until after two cautions in the last lap, a result of cars fighting hard for position but unable to keep up with Smith. Jeff Denboer (#22) of London placed second and Swales placed third.
The Bone Stock Chaos Cars proved to be a fan favourite on Friday night with countless spins, breakdowns and cars stalling on the track: exactly what you would expect of cars built for under $1200. Ed Jaffrey (#9) won the feature after taking the lead of the 50-lap feature at the halfway point from Nic Ramsay (#34) of St. Thomas. Kyle Neumeister (#92) of Stratford placed second and Nic Ramsay (#34) of St. Thomas placed third his first podium finish and his third-ever start in the series.
Next weekend is the Great Canadian Race Weekend. Friday will feature the Coca-Cola Super Stocks, Demar Aggregates Trucks, V8 Stocks, and a King of the Hill Spectator’s race. Saturday is the main event The Great Canadian Race: the Keystone 200 featuring the FT Garage Late Models in their most prestigious event of the year. Qualifying will start at noon, with heat races starting at 1:00 pm. The day will also include an autograph session and the green flag will drop at 2:30 pm. The track was pleased to announce on Friday night a special bonus from McRobert fuels that brings the potential prizing for the event winner to $10,000. Tickets are available for purchase at www.delawarespeedway.com.
