I can't find the actual article in my edition of that days paper... Maybe someone with a city edition can say what page it was on?
Delaware Speedway event may help discourage street racers, police say

A $1,000 prize for the winner of this Friday’s Kings of the Hill race at Delaware Speedway could bring old and new drivers together on the track.People look forward to seeing who comes to compete with the regulars, said John Houghton, track announcer.
“One of the favourites of the drivers is Venom (a nickname), he comes and cleans house and people are curious to see if he will come back.”
The driver has missed the last couple of races, one which was on June 15.
This is the first time in the nearly 10 years of the street-legal car race when prize money is at stake.
Sgt Tom O’Brien believes the event may help discourage street racing.
“I think it’s a positive outlet that might prevent some street racing,” he said.
Participants must provide a minimum donation of $5 for the Make-a-Wish foundation.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and children under 12 are free.
