i use to save all the loose pennies i got from my gas station and every summer my kids would count them and i would roll them...they got the cash to spend on our holiday cottage trip...then one year they went "its only pennies"...ya usually $30 worth each...no gas station anymore but i still have almost a blue box full in my basement...
i have cups along my kitchen window sill...one each for quarters, dimes, nickels and Canadian Tire coupons...use the bonus X 6 and up coupons from flyers and those CT coupons add up...i empty them at start of race season and right about now....
as a kid i had a board made up with a penny from every year back till around 1919 until sister got mad at me and bought candy...

are you kidding you have blue box full? WTF would anybody save so many pennies for? MY Grandfather save 3 demijohns full (thats those great big wine jugs) The house nearly collapsed cause of the weight. Crazy, The Royal Canadian Mint is right people don't spend them they collect them to obsession. The talk is they will be discontinued soon. You might wanna get rid of them! 🙂

lol...I knew an old guy that had one of those jugs full of pennies too. Looks kind of like a glass moonshine jug except it comes up to your knees and is about 2 feet wide. He used to challenge everyone that if they could lift it they could keep it. As far as I know its still sitting there. It was full right up to the bottom of the cork too.

Always wondered how many $$ worth of pennies was in that thing.

Well.....

Mass  2.35 g
Diameter  19.05 mm
Thickness  1.45 mm
Edge smooth
Composition 94% steel,
1.5% Ni,
4.5% Cu plating

So 1000 pennies is roughly 1.3 Kilograms / 2.2 lbs.

If it's one of those big ol antique jugs.... there'd be a few pennies in it!
