What is this all about? I dont remember the points being posted on the website in this manner in years past?? I can only assume they are doing it this way because of the Urlin / Demelo 99 car, even so they have Barry Newman listed with 140 points on both standings. Barry drove the car once and Russ Urlin drove the car once, I dont see Russ on the drivers list?
Why is Hooker way down on the owners list? Did he have issues at some point in tech?
This is confusing to a simpleton like myself, am the only one that doesnt get why they are doing it this way? The late models are the only division that the points standings are different from owner to driver?
Is the handicap system based on owner or driver points?
Anyone have any input that might help clear this up?
I've never understood the whole idea of driver/owner points, or even why they do it.
In a perfect world, to me anyway, they would do it like the Supermodified guys do, and just make the points go with the car/owner rather than the driver. (pretty sure that's how they do it...correct me if I'm wrong.)
Then the driver gets the glory, plus whatever cut his deal is worth, and the owner gets the credit/prestige/publicity of being a successful car owner. I bet you'd actually see more cars on the track if they did it like that...cigar chomping old guys with deep pockets could get in the game for a little ego-stroke.
Just a thought.
Anyway, so I'm curious as to what happens points wise if a driver has to be absent. If I'm Jay Doerr, and I have something come up that I can't be there on a fri nite, and I get Hoppy the Clown to drive my car instead (lol...really...he's an awesome driver) does that effectively blow my chance in the driver points because someone else was driving my car for a night?
I think the owners points are used to divide up the point fund money.
Pretty sure drivers points are best 8 of 12 finishes for the title. Owners are 12 of 12 or 13 of 13 how ever many points races there are. I think the owners get the cash and the drivers get the glory. Not really an issue when a lot of guys own their own rides.

It is not Hoppy that Jay would have to worry about but all the other clowns that would be stuffed into the car 😉
