I think LMFAN Steve McCaw would be a great fit as Race Director. Besides, he doesn't do much these days anyways...   😛

McCaws too old, don't want a grumpy old man in charge  ;D

Hey Grove I am not that old.
I think I should just stay as a spotter its a better fit for me
A race director needs to be a guy that is very knowledgable in all classes and have a firm grasp on all classes, Rules and a vision that is larger then just today.
he needs to be able to look into the future and see whats best for the Track, competitor and racing in General. And thats not me.
Way to many guys think they know a hell of alot more then they do and if those guys take that roll it is a diservice to everyone. The next race director at Delaware needs to be a guy with Ron Sheridan knowledge but Jeff Wilcoxs vision and to put a lesser individual in that roll would be a step backwards for Delaware and all the racers that spend alot of time and money.
We all Love Delaware and I applaude the Spivaks and the Demelos for stepping up and taking a shot at making Delaware the great racing facility we have know and loved for so long.
That being said please don,t just copy the same path as the last 3 groups and expect different results. If you spend long enough walking into a closed door the only way to get through it is to open the door. The corners have got to be fixed for racing to be as great as it once was and the competitors and fans will come back. Without that my fear is we will be walking into that closed door again and who the Hell does that help?

I still maintain that the "Race Director" and the tech director should be 2 different guys.

The race director is like the referee. He has nothing to do with anything except officiating the races as they happen. He stays away from the politics of tech and doesn't have contact with the drivers about anything other than what happens on the track, thereby maintaining total impartiality...none of this "yeah he black flagged us quick tonight because we had the nerve to bitch at him about tech enforcement last week."

I mean, tech is a big job, but race director doesn't have to be a full time position with the speedway. And as I've said before, I think we already have the guy that would fit that bill nicely.

Tech I couldn't comment on, other than to say I do not believe the two should be the same person. I think we ran into a lot of problems over the last few years because of that.

And just for the record, I have no idea how it worked out with Ron last year....don't know if guys were happy or unhappy. I base my thoughts on seasons before that.

Shadow posted:  I still maintain that the "Race Director" and the tech director should be 2 different guys.  A partial quote, and I agree. I do think there should be two guys running the pits (director/ co-ordinator/whatever titles). We loosely did that with the first Bone Stock, and it was a great success (for John, Don and myself). We three worked great as a team, and everyone was happy with the results.

This alleviated a boatload off of myself, and everyone involved as we worked together on that system. We learned there's definite need for some rule changes, and we agreed to hash it out. No one left that track (top ten) unhappy. We also all paired up the rules needed to be tighter, and we will again beat the wrinkles out eventually in the off-season.

This would be great for the higher/more complex divisions, simply from a delegation point of view. I can say, I sided with the racers in a few points, even though they were rules I wanted enforced. But John, Don and myself felt the end result was best. It was also the first run for this endeavour, and I hope there's many more.

each division requires it's "Tech Director" This needs to be a hands on job and you need to really look at things with objectivity. These people need to be respectful yet firm, they need to transparent and not be perceived as underhanded. We need people with integrity and grit. Somebody who will not waiver and pander to the few, but stay resolved to the good of the division.
A Tech Director should be approachable and engaging with the ability to make clear sound decisions and firmly apply the rules to EVERYBODY. He should be quite capable of pulling the trigger when necessary and still be able look people in the eye and say "I goofed I'm sorry"
We did not have this last year...period.

To make such a statement requires some facts, not just a story... When we were there last (only twice last year) we were treated very well, respected, and all in the garage helped out when it was requested...  not sure what or who you are refering too Jim, but you cast blame on all!

Merry Christmas to all! see you in 2012.
