This is not a bash thread, and we should see where the new management team is coming from. One, they just took this thing over. I was hoping someone would thank Manny and his son Justin for saving the track. No one has said a word to that, but I highly doubted the Spivaks wanted to do this on their own. One issue definitely in the hearts and minds, was the surface (corners). Again..... this is not a bash thread, and we ALL know it needs help in the corners out there.
I was not there but I hear they said no facility improvements???!?!?!!?!?... They own a freaking construction company... Is this actually true?
do you really think that because they are involved with construction as their business, it would be free to fix the track????? give me a break !! Since you were not at the meeting as you said, you missed the part that the track has lost money each year for the past four years. It still is a business and that can keep going like that if we hope to keep this track alive. Please don't let this turn into a bash thread. constructive ideas is what the track needs.....
2 things I'd like to say.... #1 Paul mentioned about the Delaware pace truck being in parades and such. Just read the Delly home page of the ones they were in Glencoe,Parkhill,Lucan,Alsia Graig and up coming Thorndale....did they miss the biggest parade and biggest city near the track??? London !!! way to go Guys!!
#2 I guess the Demelos and Spivaks have never heard the term......"BUILT IT AND THEY WILL COME"
NOT BASHING ...JUST SAYING
In case you haven't realised, Manny and Justin both race. They know the track surface is crap (lack of a better term). Mr. Shields' polite rant about the conditions was spot on, as was Mr. Stewart's. Racing is cyclical, as with any high dollar sport. Economy has a large part, as does cost of racing. I only heard a few positive ideas from our racing community to help out this endeavour. One thing we forget is these people are not doing this only for money. They are keeping it alive hoping it goes somewhere. If I had the money, and motorsports being such a gamble anymore... I would have a hard time investing in it.
The team up there has some good people in place. It's no secret, the Spivaks are entwined with local, and international business. Hopefully Walt turns it into a season we won't forget. Only thing this track seriously needs is better food for the price. This is my one beef, and it's a usual deal at most tracks to have subpar food. People are generally not hillbilly's anymore, and dislike cheap food at high prices. This needs to be addressed, or at least looked into. I worked in the food service for many years before mechanics, and know there has to be a better system. But this is a beef of my own, and hope they do something about it.
If you were at the meeting, you would know these guys want to give it a year or so and see if they can make it viable. I am not saying this from insider info, it's just obvious from a fiscal view. Pretty sure these gents are keeping a close reign on spending, and hope that we can keep this thing going. I'm prety sure most of us do not want to haul our gear to FLammy, Oshweken, Sunset, or other tracks weekly. We race here for many reasons. Everyone has their own, and I'm sure most of those points are aligned with others.
Another point is these guys are human, and do not have all the answers. Neither do we, and hopefully we can meet in the middle. Only reason I am on such a soap box for the track, is I hate driving from work at 3 on a Friday, to make it to the next track that I would run at. Sorry, I'm lazy, and don't want to muck at another track. That's my two cents, anyways thanks for reading.
