My Dad restored one of the hobby cars he ran there in the early 70's. Big difference from todays cars. Safety wasn't a big concern back then. To quote Gary Brooks - back when racing was dangerous and sex was safe - lol.

Brought back alot of memories Trev. Thanks. Spent many a night there cheering on the Tammy Ten with Harv behind the wheel.

The track surface looks like it has deteriorated a lot since 2003 when I shot some photos for my site, CanadianRacer.com. I seem to recall there were a few posts on the hill and scraps of wood that may been remnants of the grandstands.

Here are some shots comparing 1956 to 2003: http://www.motorsportscentral.com/nilestown3.asp

I found those 1956 photos after I had visited the site and was surprised to see they were shot from from very similar locations to mine.

On a related note, the first ghost track I visited was Acton Speedway and I drove a lap of it my car. I didn't have anything to shoot video at the time.

@ canadianracer, I enjoyed the pics on your site. Yes, it has gotten pretty deteriorated since even a few years ago. I think if you go rooting thru the tall grass on the hill those rotted boards may yet still be there.

Anyway, feel free to throw that up on your site too if you like.
