Hey dougy, are you aware of F-150 5.4L's buring tranny fluid? its been about 4 months since I last checked my tranny fluid and the dipstick is dry when the engine is running. I have not been experiencing hard shifting, slipping or jerking when shifting out of park or any leaks, but this lack of fluid has got me frazzled.
Any Ideas? I'll add some tomorrow and see if I get any results.
Year of truck so I can confirm? Because there were some of Ford's trans that you just need to replace the fluid. Remember fluids do break down, and you just need to dump the entire pan/filter and replace. Any fluid over three years, I replace in my own rides (mileage basedtoo)..... so I do recommend it to friends family too. I just learned my wife's Grand Cherokee has a large service at 50k, that isn't in Mitchell or AllData. All diff's and Tcase, all synthetic, lots of cash there. Chrysler swears that Hemi can go 8K on an oil change, but at 4k, it gets lifter noise.
Back to the Ford.... Sorry rambling, When fluids burns (even a little bit at a time) it leaves corrosive residue. This is probably what is happening now. That residue promotes an accelerated fluid failure. Not enough BTU's in the tranny cooler (towing) will cause issues as well. Do a pan drop, and replace the filter on it. I thought you guys did it when you bought it though.... Maybe my crazy memory.
I found a job gents, hopefully works out well.
