What kind of cost are we looking at?
Not a large amount, I am thinking 60 a car. Because it is not a race situation, max amount of "experienced" drivers would be three at a time on track. The reason it is limited, is obviously for safety and concerns of noise. There is no doubt, EVERY experienced driver will get some alone time on the track. I am figuring we go out and have fun, there will be little issues with that. Considering how much the track costs (with a wrecker, and a few crew /med guys), which is approx. $800, I think four or five cars total is great. Again, our team has sponsors/crew, that wants a kick at driving our car.... so they are picking up most of the tab/costs. I am giving them a few laps each (three people) on their own. They will be rotated through our get 20-30 lap sessions.
That is a lot of driving, and we want to do this more then once. So it is a good way to try out some setups, scrub some tires, or let your crew take your rides out without the worry of wiping other guys out. I was there a few times Dave Lawrence and Duane Manning had the track... and let me tell you, four hours is a ton of time to let people go in and out.
We,ve done this each year for the last 5 or 6. We have the team , sponsors, friends and family come down.
A couple of caveates:
It can all go wrong quick , make sure that it's experienced drivers if you have more than one on the track.
For inexperienced drivers, let them know that they are twice as likely to lose it coming off 2 or 4 when they have a slow corner speed. A lot of throttle in that situation and around she goes.
Bring a 5000 rev. chip with you for a few of the rookie drivers. It's suprising how many times a shift gets missed. Or they don't get it in top gear.You'd hate to wreck a crate motor that way.
Don't forget to feed them, and hide the beer till you're done.
