Howdy all. Just a quick note and a few pics about the races tonight. The PR dept has already sent out the race summaries...I'm sure they will be posted here shortly.
But what a great night of racing. Mother nature was finally on our side. We had a full slate of racing, and a pretty huge crowd on hand to give Jamie Ramsay a proper racing sendoff.
We started off the night with Nic Ramsay piloting Jamie's 34 Late Model around the track for a moment's silence, then they brought the 34 up to the top of the hill on display, with placards of photos, collages and newspaper clippings about Jamie's racing career. The Ramsay family was involved all thru the evening, from waving the initial green flag, to being in victory lane for presentations. A fitting tribute I think!
This is the Late Model that Ramsay never got to race.
The racing was tough in all divisions tonight, but particularly in V8 and Super Stock. Both of their features were slugfests that went mostly caution free.
V8 Stock
V8 was a great 3 way battle between 37-Arrand, 172-Verheyen and 39-McCulloch. The highlight of the race was the battle between Verheyen and Arrand. Arrand had led most of the early going, but then Verheyen got up there and the two of them just went at it - great side by side battle with lots of contact. At one point Verheyen got out front, but Arrand kept digging and muscled him back out of the way. It was that point that Verheyen looked like he had a tire go away on him, dropping back to 4th and leaving the victory to Arrand.
A few shots below taken around the halfway point of the feature, showing the race for the lead. (sorry, my cam is rubbish for action shots)
Jamie Klumper was back in action after that brutal crash last week. (different car I'm pretty sure)
The festivities started early in the SS ranks...a little rough stuff in the heats, then a feature that saw Kris Lawrence out front in the early going, only to end up swapping the lead back and forth a couple times with Jeff Showler. Then Kris dropped back and McNicol got up into the fray, taking the lead from Showler, then losing it back to Showler a lap later. Showler went on to win. The race was a streetfight and it was awesome to watch these guys leave absolutely nothing on the table, yet didn't draw the caution even once.
Here's 3 wide for the lead in a SS heat race. (it was the 48 that sorta "banzai'd" it. Hosang and Chant were the front row)
And here's how well 3 wide worked for Hosang 🙁
Hollywood Lake was in the house...
As was Paul Fothergill...
And Shae Gemmell sporting Jamie Ramsay's number.

Late Model
All the usual suspects were on hand tonight. Ramsays 34 LM was there but of course was not competing. Jesse Kennedy was in the house, as was Mark Watson in a new Ron OBrien car. (Watson was careful not to commit to anything beyond tonight on mic...but I don't think we've seen the last of him either.)
They time trailed the LMs in and I believe Kennedy set the fast time. The feature started with a few messes in turn 3 before the first couple of laps were over. One of them seemed to leave jay Doerr with a tire going away or something...Jay was running well for a few laps and then began to fade and was never really the factor he usually is. (Too bad, cuz the new paint scheme will look great in Victory Lane)
Thompson got out in front early and looked like he was riding a bullet tonight. no one had much for him early on, but Kennedy started reeling him in and eventually got to his back bumper. The two dueled for a bit, and managed it without the shenanigans these two have had in the past. Kennedy eventually got by, but he never really lost Thompson either. That 72 was quick tonight. Watson had 3rd all to himself thru most of the race, and the real battle was for 4th between Quarrie, Richmond and Cox, which Quarrie managed to ge the best of. Win went to Kennedy. In an interview, Thompson acknowledged the history that he and Kennedy have, but said that it was good that they raced each other cleanly, and alluded to the "feud" maybe being over.
The Big Game Hunters doing what they do best...
A pretty crappy pic of Jesse doing the Polish victory lap with the checkers...
And guess who...Kirk Hooker. In attendance, but hanging out on the fan side of the fence tonight. Kirk said he was there in support of the Ramsay family tonight. (great to see ya Kirk 🙂 )
PS: We, meaning the fans in the turn 1 fiberglass section, fired off a 34 rocket balloon salute prior to the SS feature. It was pretty cool. Rumor has it that the boys upstairs may have got it on video. 😉
"Jamie Klumper was back in action after that brutal crash last week. (different car I'm pretty sure)"
Well if it is the same car they certainly deserve some sort of award!!! Even bringing out a secondary car ready to race then running after that hit deserves an atta boy and this years "Get right back on that horse' award. ;D
