Fitzpatrick To Make Debut as Car Owner – Darrell Lake to Drive

CAMBRIDGE, ON (June 25, 2010)– J.R. Fitzpatrick will make his debut as a car owner at this Friday night’s Maple City Tire 100 SuperStock race at Delaware Speedway. Darrell Lake will drive.

Fitzpatrick – the current NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points leader and fresh off a 7th place NASCAR Nationwide Series debut with Dale Earnhardt, Jr – spent the winter months preparing his own car to compete in the Delaware SuperStock series on off weekends, just for fun. He was preparing to compete in this event himself when he got a text from 6 year veteran and friend Darrell Lake explaining that his car had just been destroyed and would not be ready for this weekend’s race. Before that event had even concluded he offered his car up to Lake and they have spent the week getting the car ready for its debut.

For Lake, a 6 year veteran of the series - three time runner up in the points, it’s a dream come true. “J.R. and I have been friends for a while and when I told him the jam I was in he did not hesitate to step in and offer his brand new car up to me. It will allow me to continue to race for points and buys me some time to get my 77 fixed. I really appreciate what he’s doing for me.”

Fitzpatrick, a racer’s racer, was excited to have Lake drive the car. “I am really pumped for tonight. It will be really weird for me to stand on pit lane and watch my car out there but I couldn’t ask for a better guy to be behind the wheel. I am sure he will do a good job for me and am excited to be a car owner. For once I can start to tell people what to do,” he joked.

About J.R. Fitzpatrick

John Ryan (J.R.) Fitzpatrick got is first taste of racing in karts at the age of six, moving quickly into CASCAR Juniors and late models by the age of 13. He is Canada’s youngest ever national stock car race winner and the youngest ever National Champion. Fitzpatrick began his NASCAR career in the Camping World Truck Series and recorded a career best 4th at his first Daytona start. In just a handful of starts he has 3 top ten starting positions. In 2009 he also competed in two Nationwide Series races and ran regularly in the top ten. He has one victory this season, in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He is the current NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points leader and is driving in 3 events for the famed JR Motorsports, co-owned by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
