Delaware Speedway is attempting to find some lost personal items from the APC Summer Showdown held on July 18, 2012. The items are owned by NASCAR Driver Michael Waltrip. The items went missing from the RV Waltrip was using at the event. The speedway further believes that wherever the items are, they are being stored together, likely in a simple cardboard box.
The following items are currently missing:
- Firesuit (Embroidered with “Aaron’s”). This suit is unique to 2012 season and was the only suit Michael had made this year.
- Helmet
- Hans Device
“These are Michael’s tools of the trade and we need to get them back for him,” explained track Operations Manager Paul Houghton. “Because the suit is custom and the only one manufactured this year, if someone has seen the suit, it most likely is the one we are looking for.”
The speedway is going public on the missing items in hopes that some of the thousands of fans and hundreds of infield participants may have information which could help officials track the items down, or lead to their return to the speedway.
The items have not necessarily been stolen. It is possible that the box they were in was placed in the wrong storage area, or mistaken for something else. Somebody may be sitting on these items unsure of what to do with them. If the items are returned or found at the race track no further actions will be taken.
It is Michael Waltrip’s intention to use the fire suit and equipment when he races at Talladega Super Speedway towards the end of the season.
The track appeals to all of those at the event, in the spirit of racing, to help recover the items. Anyone with information is welcome to contact Paul Houghton at the speedway office (519) 652-5068 ext 202.

UPDATE: Delaware Speedway is pleased to announce that the Michael Waltrip racing equipment that went missing during the APC Summer Showdown in July has been recovered.
The suitcase containing the items was returned anonymously to the speedway.
The track would like to extend a special thanks to the racing community for their support in the search, which may have assisted in the return of the items.
