Are people actually scratching their heads wondering what the deal is with SS car count?
Do what I do. Stroll the pits after the races and listen to what's being said. On any given night, it won't take you long to realize 9 out of 10 SS guys are complaining about the exact same issues. Week after week, and now year after year, it's always the same issues.
Ignore all the extraneous BS. Car counts will always be a cyclical issue at Delaware (or any other small track) until there's a fundamental change in philosphy. And it's a simple one.
The cost of racing should only change when there's a change of division involved. And ignore the pockets of those that disagree.
To borrow/tweak a famous line... If you do that, they will come.
I'm expressing my Ideas, I'm not trolling or trying to rock the boat. We do need to be proactive rather than reactive.
Really if I had a crate powered enduro how much do you think it should cost to get it to a reasonable Super?
Not a boatload of cash for the car, but tires and a few bars isn't too bad. You are right Jim, the cars are a small jump, but these guys are in Enduro strictly for the schedule. I like your idea of action, but if these guys wanted to run weekly, I'm sure they would? I don't know, but the costs/time are factors.
a few observations
1) the superstock class is starting to have the same problem as the enduros -- most nights the "all stars" win
2) would the enduro "all stars" be in a hurry to become "fodder" for the
the wreckfest that happens most weeks in SS ? 🙂
3) if "Sid's" offer was so great why didn't more teams switch? (these are great looking cars)
4) if there is a minimum ground clearance rule -- why isn't there a minimum roof height rule ? looks to be more channeling and chopping in SS than at a customer car show
now as i am posting this i do not know the super stock rules for Delaware but for some of the other tracks I do. One thing I feel has hurt this division province wide over the past 2-3 years is rule changing. I feel the rules have gone way too far for this division. You have 602's at most tracks, some have allowed headers and aluminum intakes and now some are going to standard transmissions and floater rear ends and some tracks have an unlimited cam rule and so on and so on. It has gone too far in such a short time frame. They are becoming Late models. I know the car I ran at Barrie last year was pretty much a late model the way it was built. Now you do all of this when the economy is not doing very well and your bound to end up losing cars. You have the mid to rear pack guys that can't even keep up now and they dont have the money to spend trying to catch up, so they lose interest. and I am not just speculating that this is the reason, I have seen it first hand last year a driver started in Thunder/ Superstocks at Barrie and couldn't keep up and couldn't afford to upgrade so he decided he was going to go back and race 4 cylinder instead where he could compete.
Whatever happened to the days you stuck a junker 305 or 350 into a car gave it a little camber adjusted your tire pressures, gassed it up and gave her hell?
