There a lot of bashing of the track, drivers & officials going on here that seems a bit unfair.
To put things in perspective:
- 29 was blocking most of the race. How many drivers do not block to protect the lead?
- 72X was along side 29 on the outside several times but could not complete the pass. For the TC's, Flamboro does have 2 racing grooves. People do pass on the outside.
- on the last lap, 72X made a very aggressive passing move that was almost certain to result in contact. Even if 29 held his line through the corner, the line that 72X was taking would result in contact unless 29 totally moved up and out of the way.
- there was contact and 29 spun out and the caution was thrown. Under Flamboro rules, all involved cars go to the back. In this case, since the caution was on the last lap, the checker was thrown and 29 & 72X were scored last per the unofficial finish positions posted. The scored finish is shown in one of Derek's photos.
- what happened in the pits was unacceptable. According to what Shawn C. himself posted elsewhere, he was called to the pit tower and "disciplined". What the discipline was not announced.

I do not see to much wrong with the way the incident was handled by the track and some of the comments here are a bit over the top.

I'd love to find out what "disiplined" means because it should mean barred (Father and Son), a crew member or family member could have been killed, if you have a problem get out of your car and deal with it dont use your car as a weapon.

no disrespect to the speedway, management and 99% of the drivers there. but the rest of the ones know who they are and so does everybody else!

People are voicing, because they're concerned. This action goes unpunished, or slid to the side... it could cause a repetition of the issue. They aren't saying that directly, but the common norm is pointed one direction.  I would not tolerate any of my guys doing that in the pits with our cars. I would expect Jeff to tear me a new one, and some type of "goodbye" letter. All that garbage does, is breed wrestling fans who think storylines in the ring are real.

This was a home track car driving into a vistors car, bottom line!! 😉
