Occasionally the hard luck ones are announced over the air at the event. Same with the surprise ones (the surprise ones are based on things that happen on the track - - they sometimes double as a hard luck award, but can also be given for helping push a car off etc...)
To check if you received one, ask when you pick up your transponder before the event at the payout table (or they might let you know). I'll look into having these posted somewhere.
Say you go out in a borrowed back up car and crash on the front stretch but put the fans on their feet. that could get you the "Hard Luck" award lol. which reminds me. on the website the award says $50, why was I only given $30?
If you don't want the $30, then hand'er over. I could use it. 😛

Without knowing your vehicle # I can't follow up on this in detail - - but there shouldn't be any position receiving $30. The amounts available for the various bonuses (including hard luck) are $25, $50, and $75. If there is an error it should normally be corrected immediately upon receiving the envelope. The amount that should be in the envelope is marked on it.
While we're on the topic: it's worth noting that a driver who finishes in one of the paid positions cannot receive any of the bonuses.
The bonuses themselves are admittedly completely made up - - crashing a car is not a guarantee that the driver will receive a bonus. Sometimes the bonuses are given to ugly cars - sometimes good looking cars. Sometimes to cars that lose a wheel. Sometimes to a car that pushes another car off to help a driver out (though nobody's done that yet). Only one bonus is officially designated to "hard luck", the remainder are up to the discretion of the track.
