The past comes alive this Friday at Delaware Speedway for Amazing Value Vintage Modifieds night! Highlighting the racing line up are the drivers of the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds competing in their classic race cars around the historic half-mile.
The night also features extra value for fans with a bonus division of racing as well as the classic car cruise. Kids age 16 and under enter free of charge with family value pass. The classic cruise will take place at 7:00 pm, racing starts at 7:30 pm. The evening is sponsored by Ground Masters Landscaping.
===Classic Car Cruise===
Before the races at 7:00 pm there will be a classic car cruise sponsored by Hagerty Classic Car Insurance. Organizers are expecting the cruise may be one of the larger ones ever held at the track. Drivers of these classic cars who display their vehicles after the cruise receive free admission to the event. Participants can begin staging in the parking area near the competitor entrance at 6:00 pm.
===Lucas Oil Vintage Modifieds===
The Vintage Modifieds are set to make their return to Delaware Speedway on Friday evening making up for lost time after last season’s rainout. The vehicles in this special series are replicas of classic coupes and coaches that would have raced in North America throughout the 1930s, 40s and 50s. The most recent winner in the Vintage Modifieds at Delaware is Ron Easton (#00) of Oakville in 2011. Jason Keen (#18) of Oakville leads the way in the points for the series. The race is the only appearance for the series at Delaware Speedway this season.
===Outlaw Modifieds===
Expectations were high last season for the Outlaw Modifieds to make their return to the track. Mother nature, however, had other plans delaying their debut a full year. This Friday the drivers are back on the schedule and eager to make an impression. The event will be their first at Delaware in 26 years.
===Coca-Cola Super Stocks===
Jeff Showler (#44), Kenny McNicol (#17), Matt Robblee (#51). These are some of the big names to watch out for in the Super Stocks this Friday. The trio find themselves in quite a spot heading into the event separated by a slim five points. Showler leads the championship points but McNicol is favoured on paper heading into Friday with stronger performance over the past three races for the Power Rankings.
When you think of a racing rivalry the image that often comes to mind is one of wrecked race cars. What is particularly interesting about the rivalry between these drivers is that this has not been the case. So far, the three drivers have the skill and focus to race each other hard while keeping their equipment in one piece. It is clear that all three are focusing on the big championship picture. Kris Lawrence (#28) of London has found himself back in top form after early season struggles, finally cracking his way into the rankings. Rookie driver Shae Gemmell also lands himself on the board.
Super Stock Power Rankings
Pos # Name Points
1. 17 Kenny McNicol Jr. (Exeter, ON)
2. 44* Jeff Showler (Mt. Elgin, ON)
3. 3 Shae Gemmell (R)(Dorchester, ON)
4. 51 Matt Robblee (Woodstock, ON)
5. 28 Kris Lawrence (London, ON)
*Showler leads the championship points standings.
===Demar Aggregates Trucks & V8 Stocks===
Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont still sits on top of the power rankings rallying back to a second-place finish last race in spite of a rivalry that was ignited between himself and Joe Windis (#65) that saw Adriaensen spun in turn one. Both Adriaensen and Windis have many years of racing experience between them. Windis sits behind the wheel of some top notch equipment and combined with his hard-charging style the return of Windis could represent a threat to Adriaensen’s winning ways. Working against Windis, however, is the number of rivals he is picking up on the track through his methods and a series of poor finishes since his return as a result of on-track incidents and crashes.
Truck Power Rankings:
1. 55 Gary Adriaensen (Belmont, ON)
2. 51 Trevor Collver (Lucan, ON)
3. 39 Brady Smith (Coldstream, ON)
