Fixed the arithmetic in there, damn Coors Light.

With a 12 volt system, we all know they charge anywhere (with alt running) 13.2-14.4 volts. A standard rewound alt with a 16 is 16.4-17.6 volts. So I can see why an unprotected limiter, got burned out.
A voltage step down resister pack might have saved you but if you are bumping with the charger turned on adjusting valves can be good bye charger as well.
Ok sounds like we agree on the fact there is an advantage, that being the higher the spark energy the less likely hood of incomplete combustion thereby increasing the power potential.
Oh yes, we agree on that one, I ran it on my Monte for drags because of no Alt. But it also gave way more bang for the buck.
Axles - Don't use the OEM. Flanges have been cracking since the change to Hoisiers. The new pavement accentuated that this year.
Run c-clip eliminators with retainer ring welded or MW threaded retainer. Any car that broke an axle with that setup never threw a shoe.
16v - Rules were 12v, no need to change. Leaves everything stock. The 16v system was checked on the dyno on the same car the same day, made a conciderable difference. Policing all the available add ons etc. for a 16v and up system is a nightmare.
The 15v threshold leaves everyone on the same playing field and rules out special gadgets.
