Darrell seemed to be able to get back into the gas a little sooner than the 17 which allowed him to stay even with him. He didn't really have enough to pass the 17 on the outside until the 17 slipped up a bit. It was the same way with the 17 on the outside of the 7. I neglected to give the 7 Kudos earlier. Apparently it was the first time in 25 years the elder Shields has driven competatively and if it wasn't for the spin he could have won that race. The old NOVA wasn't intimidated by the new Camaros at all!
I was watching it from pit side at corner 3 and Darrell could go as deep into the corner as 17 and not wash up the corner like what usually happens and Darrell was able to keep pace around the outside..and for Mr. Sheilds, your right, he drove a great race and he was still "energetic" when he got out of the car.
jr's car ran the top great at the beach last weekend to,
Now that we are getting this back on topic, a few comments. First off, A HUGE THANKS to JR for lending us his car and knowledge. To the people that don't know him, he is a very humble and deserving kid for everything good that is coming his way. Love him like my own. To everyone whom offered their help, thanks again. We are in the process of putting to-gether another nova that was lent to us to finish out this season. Don't know when it will appear and we may be using other rides offered to us by fellow competitors unitll it is ready. Everyone one has been most generous with their time and comments and it is greatly appreciated. To win last weeks feature meant the wolrd to us. Dave & his extended family are the reason we have had some success in our brief racing ventures. He taught Darrell so much about driving and Darrell has tried to pass on any of that to both Kris and Jordan. It was a verry emotional victory for our team as well as the bt racing operation. Ernie. I don't know if we have ever met, but please come down and introduce yourself some night. Your insights into the racing are righton. Always enjoy reading your thoughts on the evening. Racer 43. OK, I will buy McCaw the beer you owe him. Thanks Jay. We have the best division of racers and teams in the province IMO. It continues to show especially when someone is in need. THANKS to EVERYONE. See yous at the best asphalt track around. Matt Lake
I have often wondered why more guys don't get their cars setup to run the outside better or at least 1/2 a lane up....or does this hurt your car when you run the inside? Maybe there isn't enough practice time to do this or is the outside too inconsistent to be able to get the setup right? Pass em where they ain't comes to mind.
P.S. Matt posted before I finished above.
If I make to the track I will make a point of coming to the pits Friday and introducing myself. Believe it or not all the years I have been going to Delaware I've never been down to the pits. My pit history is at Sunset and Barrie when I was a kid following my Uncle around when he raced in the 70's. I would be pleased to meet you and Darrell. He drove a great race last Friday. The concentration and all out effort that both he and Ken McNichol showed in that race was amazing. Don't know if the 17 was being extra nice considering the week before or if his sponser being there had anything to do with it or if he got a wake up call but Ken didn't seem to be taking it easy at all, just driving hard and clean. That is what made it such a great race. Both drivers were determined to beat the other clean. You seem to have a great kid in Darrell. I don't know if I would have been as charitable a couple weeks ago and I am a lot older and supposedly wiser than Darrell. I have my doubts about the latter on my part LOL! I know I kind of pissed JR off a few weeks ago when my comments were misinterpreted but I have nothing but the greatest respect for him and the talent he has. I wish him nothing but the best and think it is great that as his career takes off he keeps in touch with his roots.
