The July 1st event was excellent, and worth the $20 each Michele and I spent. I will say, my kids didn't even notice the missing fireworks, because we had the Komoka 'works going off. That Late Model show was great, The Challenge was nice to watch, as the McMullough camp didn't have an unlucky night (they have had some adversity this season great win), and the SS's did great, except for for poor Juicer seemed to have his car go away a bit early (I was rooting for you Jakey). It was also great to have visiting drivers, from all parts, and finally an American come up and make the trip. He missed the setup slightly, but that's expected when you show up green.
All in all, hopefully this kind of turnout continues.
My point of view starts with "shut up about whining about entry fees"!!!! How the hell can you up the payouts and drop the pit fees? What sort of business model is that?
90 bucks for a membership is too much? what are you joking? Flamboro is $110 and if I'm mistaken $30 a nite to get in.
I can only speak for the Super Stock Division and there are issues that need to be addressed. The first thing would a 50 lb weight break for the steel cars, I must be the only guy that thinks the glass cars have an advantage.
All the changes in our rules were supposed to be for parity, that would supposedly upped the car counts...not sure if that worked.
Last night the crowd was good, no great! the program got behind but I payed careful attention and the bleed off was pretty low after 11:00 so kudos to the Enduros for keeping the show exciting!! lots of smoke and bent metal!!
I have raced at as team member at many tracks this year and all I can say that EVERYBODY is suffering a down turn.
Bobby Hamilton Jr. runs a track in the US and they used to get $5000 for a plywood bill board, they now get between $1000-1500 and the track supplies the art work. the hope is they will pay again for the following year. Now how crummy is that?
Delaware is a good track and they are doing somethings great and some things not so great.
The biggest thing I can suggest to the management is TALK to your people on the teams. I'm not a big fan of uncertainty, where are we going? what are the rules going to be for next year? I don't want to know in February I want to know now!
I agree we need more cars on all divisions, we could use more fans...allot more fans!!
Anyway I got off track but folks, the Delaware show really isn't going downhill, the industry of car racing is and we need to fight hard for those entertainment dollars what little is around.
Here's a thought instead of bashing the hell out of everything why not come up with ideas to improve it? try to come up with ideas to improve fan interaction with the sport and with Delaware Speedway. I have tons of ideas but who's gunna listen?
"I have tons of ideas but who's gunna listen?"
I will. ;D
As an aside and as an outsider I have noticed over the last couple years that things get said on here, some good, some bad, but when a truly good idea is put forward on here I have seen it implemented or at least tried at Delaware, or parts of the idea anyways, without any fanfare. It just happens so it appears they are listening.
As far as the new cars as opposed to the old cars, some of the old cars seem to be able to keep up with the new cars but from mid corner on is where the new cars appear to shine. Inside or outside lane doesn't seem to matter. I am going to take a stab at a reason for this as it may be because the old cars carry more weight higher up than the new cars. Perhaps taking wieght away isn't the answer but mandating where the weight gets added on the new cars. Anyway to measure or distribute weight above the door handle?
Aren't going to hear any negatives out of me, with the way the officials operated, how tech went and how the show went off last night, good night overall I thought for the track, bad night for us, looks like our season is done before it ever really got started.
Right now the glass cars carry weight 18" off the ground 50 lb extra. My roof and hood weigh more than 50lbs heavy than the glass stuff alone. and my roof is allot higher than 18". The 33 and 14 have built motors. we run crate and steel body. I choose not to play the built motor game, I just can't afford it. But I don't think we should be penalized for the body. I'm all for the glass bodies and love them to death but I can't afford it and we don't get the sponsorship we used to get. I'm hoping to run one next year so I don't think penalizing the glass car is the answer but why not weigh break the steel cars 50 lbs and see if that works, or maybe up the left side a little to counteract the high weight of sheetmetal. lots of things can be tried but doing nothing, is that the answer?
That being said the #60 team is in it for the season and we are more than willing to dig in and do our part whatever that may be.
