Breaking News: Kennington to Run Friday
St. Thomas Driver Returns to Delaware for Maple City Tire 100

June 30, 2011

One of the most talented drivers to come out of Delaware Speedway’s ranks, D.J. Kennington of St. Thomas is planning to run this Friday in the Maple City Tire 100.  Fresh from a win in his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series car at Mosport Speedway and recent run at Delaware in the Keystone Light 200, Kennington is looking forward to returning behind the wheel of a local FT Garage Late Model on Friday.

“It’s my home track,” explained Kennington about coming back to Delaware for a local race.  “ It’s so close to home and I love racing at Delaware”.

The car Kennington will run was put together with the help of Mike McColl and Ron O’Brien Remax.  The vehicle was original run by “Pistol” Pete Vanderwyst.

Kennington is also hard at work preparing for his run in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series when they make their first ever Canadian stop at Delaware Speedway on September 4.

“Preparations are slower than expected but we’ll be ready for September,” explained Kennington.  “We’ve been busy with Canadian Tire Series stuff and just waiting for some engine parts for the modified.  We’ll see with the big horse power and big tires and I imagine they’ll be making good time around Delaware.  It’ll be fun to get out there with different guys and a different vehicle to see if we can’t challenge ourselves a bit more yet.”

The Maple City Tire 100 runs Friday evening at Delaware Speedway and is set up as a pair of 50-lap races.  The event features nearly $18,000 in prizing including a $2,400 winners payout.  The final payout is distributed based on the average finish a driver has between both races and also features cash bonuses for fastest qualifier and the top driver in each segment that has not run at Delaware this season (a driver registered at another speedway and running their first race this season at Delaware).

Fans are reminded to wear red and white for Canada for the event.  Spectator gates open at 6:00 pm, time trials at 7:00 pm, autograph session at 7:30 pm and racing starts at 8:00 pm.  The racing lineup also features the ever-popular Dynamic Fluid Products Super Stocks and a GAW Recycing Enduro 35-lap challenge, open to all drivers in that series.  Tickets for the event are available at the gate, or online through the schedule page.
