Okay, listen carefully. I was at the banquet and Jerry Wilcox made it 100% clear there will be no NCAT race at Delaware Speedway until they drop their up-front price tags - and that simply isn't likely to happen. He said the only additional visiting series they were considering was OSCAAR - period! He was pretty open and concise and said it pretty much in the terms I just used. Sounds like they are highly confident in their own divisions to draw fans - and I have to agree with them.

As much as I'm not a fan of their current product, I'd be curious to see another ARCA race there, especially if the scuttlebutt coming from NC about TV coverage for ARCA comes to fruition....
LM4 just let me get this right you are saying that they (Jerry Wilcox) said no other visiting series does that mean there will be no ARCA Trucks,ISMA Supers O.S.S. Series etc).As for NCTS as you said dropping their up front tag good luck .How does he think these series make money they (series) have to make money also.As for trying to make it with just you regular show I wish him luck because if your car counts drop if they drop as they have in the last couple years this could mean disaster for Delaware as fans who would want to pay good money for small race fields will eventually quit going.Fans in this area want to see special shows also(ARCA,ISMA,ETC ).or is this track going to be like a Varney and have only regular shows and little if no specials I hope not and if so I hope I am wrong the demise of Delaware could eventually happen.
I was there. He said no to the NCATS and that OSCAAR was being investigated as a possible addition to the schedule. The other touring series no changes expected.
More importantly:
As for trying to make it with just you regular show I wish him luck because if your car counts drop if they drop as they have in the last couple years this could mean disaster for Delaware as fans who would want to pay good money for small race fields will eventually quit going.
Here's a question: when was the last time you saw a Delaware Weekly show?
Maybe we were watching a different one. I saw: Tons of trucks, tons of Super Stocks, small mod division (such as always been the case, but very goodracing), and a decent Late Model count. Enduro hurts a bit in the past season but that a diff story.
NCATS does not equal a successful track. Seems to me any track that feels they NEED NCATS to be sucessful either has a failing car count, or failing fan count and thinks NASCAR is their saving grace.
Turn 1 I will answer your question I have been a fan and have been at delaware for years.I was at Delaware when the trucks first started with only a handful of trucks. You can thank Tony for starting that class.I was there for the Export A Series ( Earl Ross,Don Malotte,Ed Howe,Etc)I have seen regular race nights that had features with full fields 28 cars starting. They even had to have consi races tofill the field and there were some nights when alot of cars never made it in the feature.
Today and the last couple of years the car counts have been down.If any class that has done good has been trucks their average count this year was 22 that showed up to race nights there and their highest was 27 trucks that started and that was on the last night.
Second best group was Sport Stock ( Street Stock ) their average
count was 20 that showed up and their highest count was 24 cars that showed up and that happened twice
Third best group was Late Model their average count was 17 cars
that showed up.Their highest count for a regular show was 22 and they had I think was 42 that showed up to qualify for 38 spots in the APC300.Remember that was a Special Race that had $10,000.00 to win
Fourth best group modifieds average count 14 & highest count for one night 18
You said there were tons of cars there (Late Model,Sport Stock,Trucks,) & modifeds well if you look at the averages are their any divisions with full fields no.(Only closest was trucks and they had 26 one night & 27 on another night.).
In todays age of racing you have to draw fans to the track by having specials(ISMA,NCTS, ARCA ,ETC).Willthe regular fan keep coming to the track if they (track ) can only get fields of 14 to 22
cars for a given night ( average ) I donot think so.Todays fans are looking for full fields 28 cars or close to start features. Will tracks make money off of just regular shows no they have to have specials to show possible profit.Specials cost to get them these groups (Specials ) have to make money also so when you say you donot like up front charges well then you loose the big crowds ( Approx 4000 plus ). Will a track draw 3000-4000 fans a
night on a regular night constantly I donot think so.This is why I say even thou the racing is good you still need the specials to have a good to excellant year at the end.If you want to gamble on just the regular fan night in and night out on regular shows I wish you luck you may need it
