Hey i dont race at delaware, but we are trying to rule in street tires. do you guys stiil run them? if so how do they last and are they cost effective? what kind, still firehawks?
Super Stocks (the new name in 2007 for Street Stock) I believe run a Hoosier racing tire. There are super stock teams on here who can go into detail on that.
However, the Enduro class at Delaware (similar to Street Stocks elsewhere, from what I gather) does run street tires.
What speedway are you from? Introduce yourself! 🙂
Correct Delaware Super Stocks (what use to be the Street Stocks) run Hoosier race tires.
I think they are called Entry Level Asphault, they are 26.5/7.0 or 27.0/7.0 15's Street Tread pattern.
Some people think you need a new set ever other weeks, some survive on 2 sets a year.
Some say new tires are fast, yet others find well worn in tires are just as fast.
I know of one top running team that only used 2 sets all year (12 races for the year) and the only reason they put on new tires was they had a couple flats.
Cost is $115 a tire new, people sell them for as little $50 for a one race old set or less.
I ran on used all year due to budget constraints but the couple of new ones I bought upset the car, the old ones were faster.
There was a time in between the Firechickens and these hoosiers where they ran BFG tires. Worked on a truck then and the BFG tires we felt were better but we got out before the Hoosiers.
