I had one in my '94 GMC Safari, that motor was awsome, rev'd like a bitch and towed a big ass trailer all over when we were Jr. Latemodel racing. I thought it was an excellent motor
Very interesting development... It would seem after a conversation with our new Race Director that I may not be able to change the timing chain in my motor. Hmmm I don't recall a rule in place that says you can't fix em. I was asked is it broken? Umm no but if it does I don't think I will need to worry much about the chain, cause the rest of the motor will be toast. I was told if the motor is opened it's no longer sealed. I argued that i'm already seeing 3 degrees of timing scatter, reply well we'll see in a few days.
So this leaves me to believe that all you guys out there that did a timing chain swap are no longer legal. Does that mean the 28 team is now a built motor car?, They had a timing chain cut the timing cover open it got so sloppy, apaperently that was a new motor!
I took the day off today to go down to London to get my motor fixed and ready for the next season, something that needs to be done in order for us to insure we have a reliable motor for next season. I'm ready to make the commitment to the track, I'm not saying well wait a few days and I will let you know if we're showing up next year.
I'm not trying to sneak anything in, I'm asking to be allowed to repair my motor and make as reliable as it was when I bought it.

So does that mean if ya cant fix and u wanna run crate u have to buy a new motor??
I don't know does that mean I will need to replace my motor? I certainly hope not, because quite frankly I can't afford a new motor. I beleive this creates a disparity amongst the competitors. Are the "fixed" motors deemed to be legal? This should not tolerable, and I beleive disparity was an issue in the past.
As I have openly stated before rules should be written with safety, durability, and performance in that order.
I don't recall anything about repairing the engines being brought up at the "rules meeting", a new timing chain is not going to give me a performance edge, and I don't think anybody else who has replaced their chains if done so correctly has an edge
I still think the rules should have been looked at by a rules committee comprised of teams and officials to come up with a revamped package that fulfills the needs of both sides with a stable platform on which the division can function on.
A couple of things Jim.
You said "they" used the words - may- and -we'll see in a few days- . You're jumping to some conclusions when "they" really havent given you a ruling.
I know you're the first to say they shouldnt just do things over the phone to anyone that calls. Thats sort of what they are trying to do. Obviously they are looking into it. Remember, all the things that happened before are not their responsibility, just their problem.
I'd sit back and wait a bit ( a few days) and you'll probably get the answer you need. At least, an answer you can go to the bank with.
I'm sure it boils down to the tech team deciding what is classified as a repair, and what is a rebuild and dont want to be mis leading you.
Last thing thats needed is everyone jumping to conclusions based on a phone call with questions they that they couldn't commit to, at this time.
