Ha ha ha...Crates are legal so dont open them up!?  ??? Dont fool yourself.  All you have to do is spend some time right here on good ole CRO to catch a glimps of whats going on with crates!

If you havent put heavier valve springs in your new crate the day you bought it, to turn em up, your ALREADY at disadvantage.  The list goes on.

Find a buddy that works at GM, or buddy of a buddy, and get some bolts n tags....Or your motor man you have known for sometime...an extra couple of bucks should give you a few more ponys if he happens to be a licenced crate doctor.

Dont get me wrong, crates are awsome, lots of power, cheap, very reliable.  But they NEED TO BE POLICED THE SAME AS OTHER MOTORS.  If a guys crate  is legal, pay for his gaskets.  If your gonna tear him down, give him another one to use till your done with his.

But they need to be checked!!!

Charlie is right...the crate needs to be teched like a spec motor not a sealed motor...I run a 602 and welcome any test tech wants to throw at me...it's kind of interesting when a car that has a 602 turns about the same I do but blows past me on the straight...the 602 is cost effective and will last 3 or more seasons....if you want to run a rebuilt 602 they should be allowed but they should be now considered a built motor and subject to same weights and percentages as a built
