Please read the following email I sent to CARS the citizens group opposed to the Canadian Motor Speedway, Also I encourage you to email your opinions to them as well: forteriecars@googlemail.com
Good morning to the members of CARS,
I would like to know where it is that all your members are currently employed? It would seem by your website you oppose the new speedway being built and that there is no need of the few jobs it will create. Your web site states it will only take about 4 or 5 people to run the place...please could you verify your source for this information.
I would suggest that as part of your fact finding mission you take a trip to Martinsville Virginia or perhaps Bristol Tennesse. You will see first hand the huge economic impact and the amount of jobs that are created by such a facility. Maybe it would be in the best interest of everybody if the questions were posed to the citizens in that area if they would like to see the race tracks shut down. If they would OK with loosing the revenue. The church groups who are paid for handling parking duties clean up and other event related tasks. There are literally dozens of spinoffs that you've neglected to inform the patrons of your website. I beleive you to true in your convictions but hiding the truths and misstating the facts does nothing to further your cause, quite the opposite would be true. Contact Delaware Speedway 1640 Gideon Drive Delaware, Ontario and ask them about the requirements to opperate thier facility, and how they manage to co-exist peacefully next to a retirement home and a golf course. If the local merchants would mind giving up all that weekend traffic and the money that comes with it
Of course the region will need to upgrade the infastructure in and around the facility and yes the taxpayers will foot the bill but how else do you propose growth and stimilus to such an area where none has existed for years? Do you not consider the multitude of other businesses that will utilize those same roads, water and sewer upgrades? The Niagara Region has suffered blow after blow of negative impact. Scheme after scheme have attempted to bring in the tourist dollars and yet the area still has not experienced the necessary growth to keep it viable. Does your group think perhaps more casinos or more murals on the walls will stop the economic deay in the area?
It's disturbing to me why you obviously skew your facts to facts to suit your purpose and proclaim to be working in the communities best interest. This is a bonified, sustainable, growth opportunity to the entire region and you come up with a handful of decieving statstics on what evil lurks ahead if the race track locates itself in what is most likely the most dismal area in the community. Perhaps some ideas could be brought fourth to help negate unending flow of smart, educated, talented young people who relocate to other areas as the Region and especially the Welland, Fort Erie, Niagar Falls areas have nothing to offer them. One might want to reasearch further to see if the possibilities exist in the building of this project for more than few jobs like the gas-jockey and the gate attendent.
Shame on you the self appointed watch dogs of the region to protect it's fine citizens form the evils of car racing and obviously the biggest facility in Canada of such a venue. How dare you take away those few jobs. Please state some viable facts, do you think garbage is the key issue here? Do you think you can opporite such a facility with four fulltime staff?
Thank-you
James Ott
All their facts seem to be made up to suit their cause, as I stated before I wonder why anyone takes them seriously, as they complain about the car pollution this will cause but they call the group cars. Doesn't make to much sense to me.
I think this track is going to be built not like all the other tracks we heard of being built in Ontario.
The timing is good as the economy is bad and politicians want to look like hero's by creating new jobs and boosting the economy and I think with the power of the net and our support it will get the go ahead to build the track.
I think that this cars group didn't realize how big of a our racing family is in Ontario and the numbers against will not be a big number compaired to the people that are for the track being built.
I was at the meeting Monday night. Jam packed both for and against. Its not the first town council meeting I have been at for various community initiatives. Typically those that are against it seems that they are much more emotional and less factual and that was truly the case Monday night. Those for presented their own case based primarily on facts. You have to respect those such as CARS that don't want to see a race track built in their back yard. As much as they are emotional they are passionate about their beliefs. CARS had a brief video presentation and the sound effects in the background were of racing cars. It was funny to look around at the nearly 400 plus people and see those against felt that sound was annoying and those that are for were thoroughly enjoying the crisp sound of a race engine. This project will go through and yes it will be good for the area. The facts of traffic, border crossing, etc are real and the region will have to develop a plan and infrastructure to handle it. The best part of the evening was the lady that spoke about her passion for racing. All the tracks she has visited over her lifetime and the powder puff derby she once entered. But she also said she sure wouldn't want a race track built in her back yard. Someone mentioned they would build a house by the track. Would not surprise me to see a residential development and other opportunities rise next door to the track. Anyways it is exciting, I hope it is successful, I hope the oversees investment money is still there and I hope I am sitting in the stands for the first race.
If you look at the plans for the facility you will see it was a well thought out plan, probably unlike any other in North America. It sickens me too see knee jerk reactions by people eho do not look at the facts and look at the plan before they decimate a plan. What sickens me even more is that they presume to know more than they do and they profress the pro side is lying.
Somebody tell me how you run a place that big with 4 people
I can't even begin to imagine how much spinoff business would be necessary to support the operation, working your way down the line to the actual racers. Heaven forbid fifty thousand fans show up looking for motel rooms and places to eat and paying taxes on every nickel they spend.
Take a drive around the area and you will see what the naysayers are crying to protect, it looks liks scrub land and it's full coyotes and wild dogs (my brother lives right next to it). Rabies issues all the time from animals crossing the border. Yah it's a real shan-gri-la
Couple in the fact there are no jobs except cleaning rooms and even the restaurants are struggling. Of course they could always open more casinos and bingo halls ;D
Niagara unemployment up: national rate declines

OTTAWA -- Canada's economy swelled by 79,000 jobs last month, much better than many economists had expected, as the number of people with full-time and part-time jobs increased in November while the number of self-employed fell.
But while the national numbers improved, individual cities-regions, including St. Catharines-Niagara, saw unemployment increase.
The Niagara unemployment rate in November increased to 10.4% from 10.1% in October.
Statistics Canada reported Friday that Canada's unemployment rate fell to 8.5% in November, down one-tenth of a point from October.
