Why is it that racers always blame someone else, it happens from cup on down, and no one accepts responsibilty for there own actions??
I really can't imagine that Sid( whoever he is) has that much power over the track and or it's employees... or they would have called it Sidsville by now!
I'll admit it was just a rumour, but a bunch of people said it was because Delaware didn't want crazy expensive all-aftermarket super-light Powerglides, and apparently Sid had one. I don't, mine's bone stock other than the coupler.
I would fully accept responsibility "for my own actions", but I'm not sure what actions you're talking about.
I'm not BLAMING Sid, he didn't break any rules. But it would've been nice if they just ammended it to "Stock Powerglide with the exception of valvebody and direct drive coupler."
I called Ron last month and asked him to reconsider the proposed change, since we'd then be illegal and we're running on a low budget... Not to mention some of the visiting cars from Sauble and Windsor run automatics. He said he'd look into it, I didn't hear a thing, and now my car's illegal.
Swapping to the 3 speed is a pain in the ass, but it's not the major problem--the major problem is all the time, work and especially money we put into building a fresh Powerglide, the TCI Valvebody, the direct drive coupler, the crossmember, the driveshaft, etc etc etc... And now not only is all that down the toilet, but I can't SELL any of it because Delaware was the only place where it was legal!
After a full year of frustration trying to get the car on the track, this is just another kick in the pants to a team with little money or resources. And what few loyal sponsors we have now have to be told the money they put toward the thing meant nothing. I could understand if automatics had a CLEAR performance advantage, but mine would be as quick or slightly SLOWER than any of the 3 speed cars.
Anyway... we're just one car, the only one who had an automatic except Sid's new one, so this is just a blip on Delaware's radar, I realize that. But I'm allowed to be a little miffed at the whole thing.
