Spring Sizzler Weekend shortened to 1-day event at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, Ont –Tuesday, April 28, 2015 – Martin Bélanger – The wait is finally over as we will be able to start our 2015 season this weekend. With a late spring, some decisions needed to be taken for the Spring Sizzler and the event was shortened to 1 day instead of a 2-day weekend.
After consultation with former track owner Ron Morin, the current promoters Jacques and Raymond Lavergne decided to have a 1-day event with a refurbished schedule. Current track conditions would not allow intensive activity on 2 days and to maximize security and avoid costly repairs for our drivers, the decision was made to race only on Sunday, May 3rd with the Bandit Motorsports Sportsman Challenge 100-lap event being the main event of the day.
A huge car count is expected for this first of race schedule for this new series, with the race winner receiving a nice $2,000 to win and nearly $10,000 in purse will be distributed during this race. A lot of interest is shown for drivers from Eastern and Western Ontario along with Quebec and northern United States!
Along with the Sportsman event, the Modifieds will run the twin 25-lap features with each winner having a guaranteed spot starting at minimum 13th or 14th in the 150-lap event that will be postponed to Sunday, August 2nd. In order to have the 4-event for the Bandit Motorsports Canadian Nationals, the 50-lap Super Series Starter scheduled on Sunday, July 12 will now be combined with the second round of the Canadian Nationals and will be a 100-lap event for the Modifieds.
The Pro-Stock will also be on the schedule on Sunday with the first race in the new Ultimate Pro-Stock Series with two 25-lap feature events, several drivers from Quebec will travel to Cornwall for this new Series.
Already scheduled for Sunday, the special events for the Semi-Pro division with a 35-lap feature and the Mini-Stock with a 25-lap race will remain making for a busy afternoon of racing with 5 classes on the schedule. Please note that the point’s championship and bonus program will also start this Sunday.
The Go Nuclear Late Model event was pushed to Sunday, August 2nd along with the 150-lap Canadian Nationals as we will offer a night off for the Pro-Stock on that night. We are still in negotiation with the Lightning Sprint to find a new dates to come back during 2015.
Other races originally planned during the 2-day weekend will not be rescheduled.
The pit gates will open bright and early at 9am on Sunday morning to allow hauler parking with the gates officially opening at 11am for payment. General admission gates will open at 1:30pm. The first heat race is scheduled for 3pm with time trials starting at 2:30pm.
Admission price will be 25$ for adults in general admission, 15$ for seniors with children 16 and under getting in for 2$. The pit prices are fixed at $35.
A great way to start your 2015 season at Cornwall Motor Speedway with pits full of cars, great action on the track!
