Country musics long disconnect from stock car racing ? where do you get this stuff from ?

Kid Rock may have been been at Michigan but Country stars have over whelming been at most the races this year and every year since Marty Robbins sang El Paso and Big Iron on the front stretch of Darlington in 1959 .

Country stars such as Trace Atkins , Montgomery Gentry , Megan Peeler , Jamey Johnson , Kenny Chesney , Jake Owen etc etc have all played at NASCAR races THIS year . Denny Hamlin appeared on CMTs Cribs this year and there is no other form of music that has more of a connection to stock car racing or thier fans then country music . I like many forms of music but i am glad stock car racing has a country music connection rather then say the Hip Hop , Gangsta Rap crap that is associated with sports like the NBA . When i go to a country music concert i dont see people with their pants below their butt and i dont have to worry about being shanked or shot .

I don't disagree with you. Country music and stock car racing goes together like burgers and fries, and there was a time you couldn't imagine one without the other. There was a long standing tradition at Delaware that they used to play Marty Robbins 20th Century Drifter just before the program started. (I'm talking a long time ago though)

NASCAR has gotten back to its roots a bit on the music front for sure....but I'm not really  talking about NASCAR here. I'm talking about regular old short track racing. I don't think I've heard a country song played over the PA at my home track since the 80's, unless you count the odd Shania Twain song (which I don't)

It seems for a while now that at any regular speedway that I've been to, they've actively avoided any sort of country music connection. I dunno if thats to lose the idea of stock cars being a redneck thing, or even just an attempt to appeal to younger fans. But I'm hearing more rock music than country.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other to tell you the truth. I lean towards country music myself, but the guys at Delaware seem to have developed a real affinity for using AC/DC music...and that works for me too. Frankly, I'm there for the racing. They could play Lawrence Welk tunes for all I care.

What I do know is this: They built the JLC in my city, and its big enough to attract some top acts that are guaranteed sellouts. However, BEFORE they built the JLC, we only had the facility for mid-tier acts (for the most part), and country acts were the only sure thing among concert promoters here.

I know the music biz its probably a little iffy-er these days, but if I was a promoter and I was going to gamble, I'd go with a country show. That's all I'm getting at.

All I know is that the best two concerts they have had at Michigan were the Blues Brothers and Cletus T Judd. Blues and Country. Two brothers from different mothers as they say. For pure Entertainment they were #1. Three Doors Down was good also but since then with NASCAR's attempt to woo the Party Rock and urban youth crowd I haven't stayed thru a whole concert and they are free! Maybe I'm just getting old but when it was just the so called "Red Neck Crowd" racing was more civil. Years ago with crowds of 200,000 people you never heard of fights or assaults or stealing. Since NASCAR has been trying to get "The New Fan" there have been more and more incidents every year at Michigan. Still a small number but people seem to be less polite. Don't know what that says but it sure says something ???
