Super Feature Night Provides Super Racing

September 19, 2010
For Immediate Release – by Angie Rinaldi

The season is quickly coming to an end and yet the drivers are as excited and entertaining as ever at Brighton Speedway.  The weather was cold but the drivers were prepared as John’s Equipment and presented Super Feature Night when tensions were high with tight point battles going into the double point’s event.  With four classes of racing and a thirty lap endurance race to cap it off, fans who were here witnessed fantastic, pedal to metal, dirt flying action from start to finish with great track conditions and car counts on Super Feature night featuring the Danny Reid Memorial.

The Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Division started off the night of feature racing with 20 laps.  It was a hive of fast paced four cylinder action with 01 Brandon Gregory securing the checkered flag and maintaining his points lead. Following him was 10 Travis McLean who also secured the honours of the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week after finishing first in his qualifier.  Rounding out the top five for this double points battle were 21 Warren Mowat, 66 Mark Packer and 32 Terry Hough.

Every year the Danny Reid Memorial caps off the season in the Canadian Modified class and is highlighted with the Championship Piston trophy!  The Danny Reid Memorial 50 Lap Race was full of drama as the 42 of Adam Nayler and 9 Mat Vanderlinden anxiously fought off 4 Shawn Gregory for the first half of the race.  A caution mid way through caused Gregory to head to the pits and left Vanderlinden, Nayler, 11 Dan Ferguson and 19 Zeke McKeown vying for the top spot.  Nayler and Ferguson both ended with mechanical problems leaving Vanderlinden to take home the Piston, followed by McKeown and 69 Ed Snyder at the finish line. Number 11 Dan Ferguson was able to successfully retain his points advantage over Nayler heading into next Saturdays final points night.

The Vanderlaan’s Building Supplies Pro Late Model Race saw only a couple of cautions in their fifty lap feature. The first at lap 35 kept 57 Charlie Sandercock in the lead with 29 Phil Potts valiantly chasing him until 25 Greg Belyea was able to slip by and take the second spot away from Potts.  The points spread between Sandercock and Potts heading into the double points event was only 10 and now sits at 30 with Sandercock in the lead for the title.

With more than 130 laps of feature racing, the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks anxiously took the green flag for their 30 lap feature.  The Big Smooth 72 Doug Anderson started up front and didn’t look back leading all 30 laps ahead of the pack.  #45 Mike Schonauer gave chase and pushed Anderson until lap 25 when his brother, Matt was caught up in the wall in turn one and brought out the caution.  Matt was checked out by the ambulance and transferred to the hospital with minor injuries and released later that night.  Anderson went on to win the feature in dominating style similar to his whole season.

The night ended with the Hotch’s Auto Parts 30 Lap Endurance race. With 23 participants on hand to finish out the night the event went quickly and without incident for only 3 cautions in the 30 lap event. Winning the race was 32 Terry Hough, followed by 44 Brandon Wilkie and 04 Josh Read.

The 2010 season is not yet over as we approach the Cool 100 and Benson Autoparts Applefest weekend presented by ImageFactor. ca.  With two days of racing beginning Friday, September 24th as Smylie’s Indendpent Grocers hosts the DIRTcar Sportsman Challenge along with Vintage car, Mod Lites, Pro Stocks, Comp 4 and Stingers.  On Saturday the mighty 358 Dirt Modifieds return along with Pro Late Models, IMCA/Canadian Modifieds, Mod Lites and Pro Stocks Duel in the Dirt battle with Merrittville Speedway.  Be sure to join us next weekend as we host nine classes of Pure Horse Power Racing!  Racing Starts at 7:30 pm on Friday and 6 pm on Saturday.  For complete details visit www.brightonspeedwy.com or email info@brightonspeedway.com.
