Round Two an Icy Hot Success
February 14, 2011

The start to the 2011 season has started off with a roar. The second round of Oval Ice Racing on Saturday, February 12th saw over 60 registered drivers take to the fully iced 1/3rd of a mile clay oval for a day of excitement. High winds throughout the day made for a blustery experience but track conditions held out and the racers battled fiercely to the checkered flag.
A few spills throughout the day and mechanical issues caused a couple of delays to the program but all riders were safe and sound and ready to go again. The increased participants were enthusistic and raced well. A few highlights to the day included the return of the Ice Bikes. These decked out motorcycles with awesome studded tires put on a thrilling and mind blowing show when they hit the ice. Competing at awesome speeds on the iced oval, the Ice Bikes are amazing to see. The feature race saw #2 George Jones take the checkered flag, followed by #35 Lenny Mouning, #327 David Corvers and #52 Nick Jones. #6 Jason Shields took a spill before the finish line on the white flag lap and the race ended.
The Kids ATV class had increased numbers this weekend for this beginner division and saw 6 young racers take too the iced oval. Both Nathan Rinaldi and Kyle Anderson were new to the event and all children did very well. “It’s inspiring to see the children hit the track and overcome the icy obstacles” states General Manager Angela Rinaldi and mother of Nathan, “His first race at the age of 7 and I don’t expect it to be the last. Growing up at a race track will be an adventure for both him and I.” The class saw #97 Connor Rafferty take the checkered flag for the Non Studded division and #105 Tristan Peacock won in the Studded division.
The final event of the day saw the Bill’s Johns 30 Lap Endurance Race take to the track. With only 10 cars in competition the battle was fierce from the start. Veteran racer #77 Bernie Rhebergen was back to defend his current title but was hard pressed from the start to ward of the current Comp 4 Division Champion #01 Brandon Gregory. The finish after 30 laps ended with #01 Brandon Gregory, #77 Bernie Rhebergen, #19 Corey White, #68 Dan Cooper and #67 Troy Barlett rounding out the top 5.
This race event is proudly supported by Trenton Glass & Windows, Battlefield Equipment Rentals, Cornerstone Building, Larry's Towing, Bill's Johns, Rock 107, Dave McDonald Homes, Percy Boom River Rats, Image Landscaping, Star 93.3, Motosports of Trenton, First Place Trailers and Klotz Canada.
