Eve of Destruction a Smash Hit
BRIGHTON (September 28, 2014) – A jam-packed grandstand saw all kinds of destruction take place at Brighton Speedway on Sunday afternoon. The annual Eve of destruction meant a ton of crumpled metal on the property of the one-third mile dirt oval. A warm afternoon and sunny skies provided the perfect setting for the final event at the speedway in 2014.
McBride Scary Fast in Monster Enduro
The 100-lap Monster Enduro was the main event of the evening. At the end of the long-distance race, Zac McBride (No.86z) was the first car to cross the finish line and avoid the carnage of racecars around the track. Adam Flieler (No.11) held off Colin Pickell (No.91) to finish second. Peterborough Speedway mini stock regular Tyler Junkin (No.401) finish fourth ahead of Mike Beaudrie (No.89B), who completed the top-five.
Sopaz Wheels to Victory In Bus Race
The second and final appearance of the season for the Workman’s OK Tire Quinte West School Bus Race did not disappoint the capacity crowd. Rick Sopaz wheeled his No.24 bus to victory lane ahead of Jim Perry (No.44). The two drivers swapped spots from the first race of the season as Perry won the race on June 7, while Sopaz finished second. Frank Flieler’s (No.03) bus held on to third ahead of Bob Green (No.8) and Jan Steenstra (No.29).
Trailer Race A Thrill
The annual trailer race saw racers attach camper trailers to the rear end for the race. Racers had to try and keep their trailers attached for the length of the race. did Andrew Wildenbeest just that in his No.68 van and trailer combination to win the race. Jody Trottman’s No.1408 was the runner-up while Mike Freeman rounded out the podium in his No.51. Jan Maat (No.767) won the best appearing trailer award.
Juniors’ Race Hard to the Finish
The Junior’s race also provided plenty of excitement. The drivers between the ages of 14 and 18 raced to a victory. At the end, Cameron Pederson piloted his No.21 machine to the winner’s circle. Alex Bearagerr was a close second in car number 53. The final podium position went to Kyle Deline-Gregory (No.97k).
Girl Power On Display
The Ladies’ race was also one of the important events at this year’s Eve of Destruction. Cindy Mosco (No.22cc) was the big winner as she defeated Sam Potts (No.0) and Alix Woods (No.38). The top-five was completed by Brittany Golden (No.85) and Steph Roblin (No.16).
Derby Delivers Destruction
The Brighton Recycling Demolition Derby saw plenty of crashes. The last car standing was Dylan Boyle’s who lasted just long enough to defeat Jeremy Gale. Wayne Patrick was the third-place finisher.

The Lange and Fetter Ford Eve of Destruction marked the end of the 2014 schedule at Brighton Speedway.
