Bay Marine and Investors Group present Fan Appreciation and Vantastics this Saturday

By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON (June 9, 2015) – Brighton Speedway’s 48th season of action continues on Saturday, June 13 as Bay Marine and Investors Group present a full night of weekly racing and the first night for the Gord’s Water Vantastics. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet drivers on track at intermission as part of the first Fan Appreciation night of the season which was rescheduled following a rainout on May 30.

Vanderlaan RUSH Pro Late Models

The Vanderlaan Building Products RUSH Pro Late Models will be in action again this week as the field looks to hunt down three-time winner Charlie Sandercock (No.57 Bellevue Fabricating).

Opening night winner Corey Earl (No.11 Hotch’s Auto Parts) is the current point leader with a 20-point advantage over Sandercock. Phil Potts (No.29 Vanderlaan) is comfortable in third, 45 points behind Earl. Kyle Sopaz (No.12 KD Transmission) and Steve Baldwin (No.5 Smokin’ Speedway) complete the current top-five.

OilGARD Canadian Modifieds

A first-time winner graced Canadian Modified victory lane last week for the second-time this season when Mike Lucas (No.74 A&C Insley Property Maintenance) scored the victory. Curtis King (No.07 Ajax Nissan) won his first career race on May 9. The Modifieds are the only of the four weekly divisions without a repeat winner in 2015.

The parity has led to an extremely tight points race with Napanee’s Doug O’Blenis (No.32 John’s Car Care) the current lead. He holds a 15-point advantage over opening night victor Andrew Hennessy (No.87 Custom Automotive). Dan Ferguson (No.11 Kilmarnock Enterprise), King and Lucas round out the top-five in the standings.

Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks

The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks face a new challenge this week with the first hometrack qualifying race for the Duel on the Dirt mini-series. The series will see two home track qualifying races at each of Brighton, Humberstone, Merrittville, and Ohsweken Speedways. Each track will also host one combined points event. The overall point leader will be the 2015 champion.

Justin Ramsay (No.03 Empey Tire) took the division point lead on the strength of his win last Saturday. His slim 10-point advantage over Doug Anderson (No.72 Hunt’s Bobcat Service) will be tested again this week. Jamie Marshall (No.55 C&L Upholstery), Wade Purchase (No.53 Performance Auto Sales) and Leslie Mowat (No.2 Cormier’s Auto Recycling) are the current top-five in the standings.

Bill’s Johns Comp 4s

Brady Greer (No.94 Greer Excavating) dominated Bill’s Johns Comp 4 competition last Saturday to claim the second race of the ABC Taxi Triple Crown. Greer became the third different division winner this year. Tyler French (No.0 Empey Tire) has captured three checkered flags and Shelby Mills (No.78 ABC Taxi) one of her own.

Mills is the current point leader with a 25-point cushion over Austin Reid (No.85 Young Drivers). French, Greer and Courtney Mastin (No.97 DW Metal Expressions) are the current top-five.

Gord’s Water Vantastics

The wacky and always entertaining Gord’s Water Vantastics return for another season on Saturday night. The fans will once again feature teams of two drivers – each with a driver and a navigator. Pro Stock racer Mike Freeman and Pro Late Model driver Kyle Sopaz won the two Vantastic races last year. The annual threat of a new obstacle to race around is sure to surprise both drivers and fans.
