ABC Taxi and Hotch’s Auto Parts presents Salute to the Forces Race Night at Brighton Speedway

By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON (July 15, 2015) – Brighton Speedway will proudly welcome members of the Canadian Forces on Saturday night for the annual Salute to the Forces race night presented by ABC Taxi and Hotch’s Auto Parts on July 18. Active Canadian military will be admitted free with their military ID. The Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club returns to Brighton for the first of two events this season. The RUSH Pro Late Models, Canadian Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Comp 4s and Stingers will be on the schedule for a full night of racing action.

Vintage Club Returns

The Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club returns to Brighton for heir first appearance of the season on Saturday night. The club competes primarily at Brockville Speedway but will make two select appearances at Brighton on July 18 and September 25 as part of the Applefest Shootout weekend. Paul Billings is the current point leader with two wins in five starts at Brockville so far this season. Brandon Gregory and Rick St. Pierre won the 2014 races at the speedway.

Sandercock’s Dominance Will End

Trenton’s Charlie Sandercock is clearly at the top of his game behind the wheel of the No.57 Pro Late Model. Sandercock has won two Vanderlaan Building Products RUSH Pro Late Model races in a row to take over the points lead from Corey Earl and now holds a 160-point lead over Phil Potts. Earl has yet to win since opening night despite several good runs. Potts is winless this season, but appears to have turned a corner after some bad luck in June. But Sandercock’s win streak will come to an end this week with Tim Kerr behind the wheel of the No.57 as a substitute driver. Both drivers remain in the title hunt, but will also face pressure from Steve Baldwin, Adam Turner and Kyle Sopaz who sit fourth through sixth, respectively, in the championship standings.

Canadian Modified Point Battle Only Getting Tougher

Curtis King made the point battle in the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds division increasingly interesting with his second win of the season last Saturday. King held off Dan Ferguson and Andrew Hennessy, who sit first and second, respectively, in the standings, for the victory and closed the gap to 140 points behind Doug O’Blenis for third. Ferguson’s lead is just 50 points over Hennessy, while O’Blenis is 155 points off the lead. Mike Lucas currently holds the fifth position, just 30 points behind King. The championship chase is becoming increasingly tough and it doesn’t appear to be getting easier anytime soon.

Anderson Gaining in Pro Stock Ranks

Doug Anderson’s second win of the season in Brighton Automotive Pro Stock action shook up the point standings and ended Justin Ramsay’s three-race win streak. Anderson closed the gap on Ramsay at the top of the standings to just 180 points. Anderson’s DNF on July 4 gave Ramsay the advantage, but half a season remains to erase the deficit. Wade Purchase took over the third spot with a fourth-place finish last week. Jamie Marshall and Leslie Mowat round out the current top-five.

Comp 4s Back in Action

The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s return to action on Saturday night after a week off. Shelby Mills continues to lead the current championship standings by 30 markers over teammate Tyler French. Austin Reid, Brady Greer, and Riley Greer complete the current top-five. French won his fifth race of the season on July 4. The rest of the field looks to stop his win streak at two-in-a-row.

MacGregor Holds Stinger Lead

Del MacGregor’s second Quinte Septic Stinger victory of the 2015 season on July 4 handed him the point lead entering the fifth race of the season this Saturday. The three-time defending champion holds a lead of just 45 points over perennial contender Andy Fletcher. Jorden Pickell, Chris Lammle and Arthur McCauley complete the current top-five after a consistent start to the season for all three drivers.

Tickets Please!

Adult admission for ABC Taxi and Hotch’s Auto Parts Salute to the Forces night featuring the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club is $10. A Family Pass is just $25 and is valid for two adults and two children under the age of 16 and includes a family-size popcorn. Seniors and Youths are $18.
