At BARRIE SPEEDWAY in the thunder division there are three drivers that I feel should move up to late model. The first is Frank Davies he has been in this class for years, Darryl St.onge who on a bad night could drive a thunder backwords faster than most the field, and Dave Doucette who is always fast. I honestly believe only one of these guys  would be successful, which one  what do you think, I think St.onge.

are we talking JUST barrie drivers? or province wide?

cause i thinm Randy Rusnell, Paul McIllroy, Jim Remington and Scott McTeer would all make awesome late model drivers

I think what they shouold do is somehting similar to motocross. At tracks in Ontario the guys should be on a points system...the amount of points can be set at whatever...u get 3 points for a first, 2 for a second and 1 for a third....after so many points, the driver must move up a division until they are at the top division at the track. This would stop the sop called sand bagging and force the better drivers to move up after a couple years of dominating a division. You would have to have a window like motocross has a three year window to obtain these points or it you start throwing out the oldest year as it goes along...this stops dominating riders from hanigng out int he intermediate ranks and whipping up on everyone and winning all of the money., it makes them move up....

it might be a little tough to follow but reread a couple times and you should get the jist...

The big problem with a system like that is MONEY. In Motocross generally your equipment is the same in all the classes, the only difference is your experience or ability. Big difference money wise from a thunder to a late model ( though not as much as it used to be ). I don't know if Frank would ever move up to Late Model, he would need a big sponsor to foot the bill. Darryl told us last year that he wanted to spend more time with his kids & a switch to late model would definitely take up even more of his time. I think Dave falls in the money issue category or he would be in a late model. I think Tremblay will be in Late Model before all of them.

those are great points

if you start "forcing" people to move up, all you're going to is force them to quit racing or force them to move to another track

if the moneys not there, it's not there...regardless of how much the track pushes them to move up
