Walt Streak Still Alive After Night Five

Ok best attempt at a 20 min rundown.. The question week in and week out at the High Line seems to be will the dominance of #10 Rick Walt continue in the Thunder Cars?? Well on this night the answer was a resounding "YES" as the Hawkestone driver would charge from his 12th place starting position to take the lead on lap 11, from #80 Doug "Shaky" Shakell with a nice clean pass on the low side of turns 1&2.. We were unable to get the full night in after the rains came during a lap 20 caution in this race, thus handing over the win to Walt, and wiping out the 2nd LLM feature, with no word on when or if a make up will occur for the missed feature. Great crowd on hand tonight as well with the Spring Auto Mart on next door at Burl's Creek.. Stopping short of saying the place was jam packed, I would have to say thats the biggest turnout I've seen in the front grandstands in quite sometime..It came on a very fitting night, with the gang from BFI Canada on hand as the racers and staff honored the  memory of our former turn 2 flagman Neil Green..

Ok back to the Thunders, and this race saw #72 "Pistol" Pete Marquardt and #20 Luke Gignac battling fast and furious from the front row. After a lap 3 caution for a spin by #5 Mike Langley, the duel was on once again with Gignac and Marquardt, with Marquardt gaining a marginal advantage from the outside line, as #55 Shawn Goggins tucked in the pocket behind looking for racing room. Om lap 5, Goggins would give Marquardt a knock from behind on exit of turn 2, as Gignac and Goggins both showed class in checking up and letting "Pistol Pete" gather it up. One lap later, Marquardt would get crooked out of turn two,( perhaps with another tap from Goggins  but cant say that for sure), as the result would see Marquardt make contact with Gignac who was running up on the high side , sending the #20 Monte pretty hard into the turn two wall.. This turn of events would see Marquardt, Goggins, and Gignac deemed involved cars, as Gignac was unable to continue thus ending one of his better runs in quite a while.

The benefactor of the afore mentioned accident, was the 80 of Shakell, as the longtime veteran inheirited the point, after a clean two lap challenge from #21 Desi Walt on the restart. Shakell, would move out to a two car length lead, with Desi Walt now under heavy fire from #24 Leonard Johnston for 2nd. Also fast on the move behind Johnston, was the point leader Rick Walt, as the two division veterans had a short but impressive dice for the runner up post, with Walt coming out on top after a low pass in turn 1, just shy of the ten lap mark. As earlier mentioned, Walt would find Shakell's bumper just two laps later, again using the inner groove of turn one to make the eventual winning pass. On lap 20, an intense three way battle with #44 Dave Doucette, #12 Jim Belesky, and #77 Brian Murray came to a head between turns 1&2, as both Belesky and Murray would spin, just before the rains really came falling down. I personally didnt really see this one, but at the end of the race the #44 and #12 seemed none too happy with one another... Give the win to Walt, as his amazing 5 for 5 in feature race streak lives another week.. #24 Leonard Johnston continues to stock pile the points in what has been a smooth sailing season for him, coming home the runner up, as Shakell, #39 Travis Hallyburton, and Murray rounded out the top 5. Not even really sure if this finish is totally correct or not, but I think I have it right, as perhaps Murray was deemed to have spun to avoid Belesky sitting turned on the speedway before him. Whew that was hard to explain for a 20 lap race!! The Thunders used to be the cleanest class I've always thought but these last two weeks its been a bit crazy. A notable absence was the 00 of St. Onge, but I had heard something about having a prior commitment, plus the fact that Darryl's had a pretty tough go of late with damage incurred, so maybe the week off was deserving and just for him.

Heat wins went to Walt with a pair, to cap off the "Hat Trick" for the evening, while Belesky, and Doucette also captured checkered flags.

Just got the call for work.. So very sorry Lates and 4 bangers but yours will have to wait. ;).. I do have time for results though..
