I think Tooner and Hellothere are right, Sunset management just shot themselves in the foot. 118 fans in the stands last time? Maybe 50 this time. I'm predicting you won't see another Invitational at Sunset for a long time after this one. And yes Thayne I think Barrie should outright ban Sunset 16v 4 cylinder cars. What goes around comes around. This is really unfair to the drivers who would have made the trip, and for that matter THE SHOW, because without some cars from other tracks it's just another practice night for Sunset cars. I hope no one shows up and the whole thing is a flop.

Sunset does it again but that won't stop the cheering section on here. Why put such a rule in place knowing it will remove half the field before you even start?? Mosport and Varney and Sauble thunder cars are NOT going to make the haul on a Thursday afternoon/evening. Why should they? Does the payout make the effort to work all day then haul and race all night just to go to work the next day again make it worth their while? Highly doubtful with the costs these days. Costs too often outweigh the fun quotient anymore. Sad but true, hence poor car counts at what once would have been crowd pleaser nights. Things change and not always for the better.
Sunset is an inferior operation these days in many ways and there's no getting around that. Moves like this just confirm that. Sorry if that ruffles some feathers, but deal with it. While I do/will not make personal attacks or attach dubious tags on individuals, I do like the "dump on the hump" line as it is simply a play on their own ad slogan "the thrill on the hill...". Of course Barrie's "the greatest show on asphalt" is over the top as well, but if anyone comes up with as snappy a parody on it I'll be glad to have a good hearty chuckle. Ad slogans are always fair game.
As for Barrie not having invitationals, why bother? Only three or four cars from other tracks ever show up anyway and if three or four "home" cars don't race, as is often the case, you're no further ahead so why even worry about it? The only invitational that most racers care at all about anymore is Autumn Colours. The idea that one track has a leg up on another because they offer an "invitational" (I use that term loosely) and the other doesn't is nonsense. Invitationals are largely irrelevant nowadays and have been for quite some time now.
How was the visiting car count at that Barrie 4 cyl. invitational in June (the 16th I believe)? Were there any?
