And the more I think about it... what is $1000 worth of wrecks from the scrapyard really worth? To the Fire Department, as the commercial says, priceless. To the racers at the track, also priceless because the very guys who are there to save them are training there, on vehicles and training facilities supplied courtesy of the Speedway... Private business working in connection with government. Some food for thought.
Well even if the track got an older used fire truck or ambulance and bought some used equipment I don't think it would be all that hard to find trained firefighters to work it for free admission
As far as fires go I haven't seen anything that the track hasn't handled very well. And our EMS will meet the other ambulance at the gate or take them right to the hospital while another is on the way to the track so we can continue to race it just depends on how severe the injury is. I remember the one year where the air ambulance landed right in the parking lot. It was there before most new what was going on. I think these people do a great job.
why is everybody bashing the ambulance guys at Barrie Speedway! They always seem to do their jobs! So what if they aren't able to drive the injured to the hospital! without these guys i don't think the insurance company would let the track stay open. If it were just volunteer firefighters or something along those lines i don't think that would cut it for insurance policies! they are there for our safety so that we can race and have fun every saturday! has anybody who is bashing them ever been injured at the track and needed their attention? i have and they are great. just because it does not appear that they do a good job to you doesn't mean that is how it really is! they are great and i am glad the speedway has them there.
people seem to not realize that if you move to quickly in those situations that the person you are trying to help get badly hurt, for example, during the kill of the hill where the acura hit the wall in corner two, The reason they were being soo slow was because they didn't want to injury him more, if you move a person to fast they may still be in shock which that guy was to pervent anymore injury to him they made sure that they did not move him to quickly which will result in injury to the spine and neck, He already had a broken Wrist which he didn't feel untill after the shock and anderaline wore off (2-3 mins after the hit).
