Okay so maybe you all think I'm only a LLM guy and could care less about the rest of the racers at the track and that is why I made the post about the LLMs and ignore the majority of racers at teh track. You'd be wrong about that, the Thunders are usually the best show of the night and there is more good racing to be found in the fours as well.
I think we need to kill the double heats in all of these classes as well. The same predictablity as in the LLMs is a big problem in the heats in all classes. I think that in general the heat racing is not as interesting for the fans as it could be.
My approach is decidedly old school but that doesn't make it wrong.
Here is how it goes:
1. Split the field by percentage.
2. 1st heat is the lower percentage guys and fhigh handicap cars start at the back.
3. 2nd heat is the higher percentage guys and high handicap cars start at the back.
4. Top 4 or 5 in each heat are qualified and go on to run a dash race, again fast cars to the back.
5. Remaining cars to a consi or maybe two. The top 4 qualify (or top 2 if there are two consis).
6. Feature line-up is based on handicap with the 12 qualified cars lined-up first, i.e. the high handicap is 12th (adjust this to be 12-14-16 if you like) and the remaining non-qualified cars start at the back again based on handicap.
You still get points for the heats/dash/consi so there is incentive to race for it.
Your first heat guys get a chance to race together and an opportunity to win without one of the fast guys messing things up due to the luck of the heat draw as is done currently.
The fans get more interesting racing in the heats.
The slow cars are not going to be running at the front in the feature start until they are no longer slow cars.
I like this! no quams!
Old school. I love it. The promotors changed the format some years ago. Why?
Good plan Statsman. You cant beat a proven format.
great idea! please bring this up, whenever the drivers meeting is. lets have some more interesting races.
Great idea, same way they ran it basically back in the 60's - 80's. Maybe Statsman should put his name in for the handicappers position, I heard they are looking for new people in the tower.
