Interesting discussion, i do wonder if any of the people here who advocate an open tire rule or almost open tire rule have ever raced under such a rule ? I have and and i can tell you that you can take what you are spending on rubber now and multiply it by ten times or more minimum under such a rule .   Every action has a reaction and once you put that big wide sticky tire on the right front of fwd cars, cv joints halve shafts bearings and suspension failures will abound . On Mustangs wheel bearings will have to be replaced every week and stock lower control arms will be walking around so much it will cause bump steer issues and racks will be exploding at an alarming rate. The car that has been proposed on here will cost as much as a thunder car if not more to build and maintain but i have do no doubt it would be faster then a thunder car. For what its worth the best tire currently available for racing in the 4 cyl class is the Falken Azena . This tire is not only the most economical  competition tire for its price but because it has superior wear characteristics you can get the more laps out of it with out your lap times falling off very much .

well look at it from a safety aspect! the faster the 4 cylinders go, the easier it is to get hurt because of the minimum bars in the car! they should make it mandatory to have front and rear hoops in the cars as it is already! but if anything like a pro 4 class ever did start they would have to have the cars alot safer and stronger, otherwise it's a safety concern!
