The point of the matter here is that 4 cylinders are 4 cylinders. Unless you change chassis or bodystyle they are always going to be 4 cylinders. If you want to go faster, then move up. If you want to still run a four cylinder engine, it can be done, but you have to have a chassis and bodystyle to go with your unlimited engines, brakes and suspension. I can see how you guys in the Hondas think you can go faster with some changes, thats true, but you guys are already pushing the envelope.
How about seperating the FWD and RWD classes? That can be done too.
Lots of stuff you are suggesting we are not even allowed to do in the Thunder Cars. We are allowed 2.25 exhaust, max 1" rotor, not crossdrilled or slotted, 2 rotors, 2 drums. No adjustable sway bars. And we are certainly not allowed to run whatever cam we want...
As you move up in the classes you are allowed to make more adjustments... Some of the four cylinder guys have come to me and asked me about what we were doing when we were setting up the Thunder Car. Quite a few don't understand the concepts...
that makes sense kevin! the 4 cylinders are meant to gain experience and get a feel for the cars without too many adjustments allowed within the rules. As you move up to thunders your allowed more adjustment and even more in LLM and so on. If anybody is concerend with speed then move up a class. Seems like the only people that want this is the guys running 12 valves! us Mustang guys are quite happy and were the cars that the tech guys know the most about! i think by now everything you can cheat with on a mustang has been explored, where as the 12 valves well thats a different story. the tech guy doesn't know where to start with some of them expecially shawns suby!
And guys remember that the Thunder Cars and Late Models have been around way longer than four cylinders... At one time it was 6 cylinders, Street Stocks (or Challengers) and Late Models...
I know I can go way faster if the rules were changed too, but I don't want them to be changed. If I get fast enough that the Thunder Cars lose their appeal, I'll go to Late Model. Or buy a boat and retire. LOL.
I love the idea!! ;D cause guys like me know allot about 4 Cly's with fuel inj. littel Japanese motors I think if we don't start thinking about new stuff soon to do with the pure stock or pro 4 the older 8 or 12v cars are going to become few and far between ..... this idea should not be put aside because if diffrent it should be at lest talked about with the track.
look at it this way if I blow my engine I'm going to be out for at lest 2-3 weeks just trying to find one.. the #90 car has bin out for a while now cause he can find a engine for his car.. now if I had a 1995 to 2000 16v car parts would be allot easer to find. there is ways to keep them slowed down IE,weight, smaller exhaust, mufflers...
I only have 8 valves 8)
