what about the folks who are forced to work when these specials are on? Should they lose out on their track championship points if they cannot make it due to work? Usually Saturday nights are racing for guys who points race and they usually make sure there schedule is clear. When they cannot get the time off of work for the odd one or 2 specials a year (Say Sunsay or Friday), then why should they lose home track points positions because they are not able to run an invitational series race which is completely different from the championship points you would accumulate on a regular home track night?

Saving our car for points was not the reason we did not race Friday. Both myself and my dad had to work or we may just have been there.

Maybe there should be another sort of incentive. Barrie home track cars could get some free gas or a tire or an extra $50 to race the invitationals. There are other ways of drawing home track cars, but season points for a non regular night does not make any sense. It's like giving Sprint Cup drivers extra chase points to start so many Nationwide races or vice versa. Apples and Oranges. But there's definately something they can do to draw the cars.

If you want to blend it with a "points" night, JP Josiasse (Peterborough) rule is the best one I've seen work - show up points. The home track cars that run the special invitational that's also a points night is a show up points night - which means every home track car that does race, gets the same points. Those that do not, lose out - but it's up to the car owner to decide whether to run it or not. At the same time, it's fair because out of town cars may win, thus points allocated where home track cars may finish are not handicapped because of it.

Of all the possible options, that's probably the best of the bunch. The problem is tires, but JP (I think) allowed home track cars to run non-registered tires for that one event,  but they can't be used the next home track feature event - unless they decide to register them, counting towards their inventory. The idea being, the unregistered tires could be used at other Stefko - McColl events.

Unfortunately for those of us that were not participating in the McColl series, but, didn't want to sacrifice what few points we had were saddled with a substantial expense for just one event. Don't get me wrong. I had a blast but if given the choice I would have preferred to just watch

Dale,

I don't buy that logic completely, but I think you're suggesting that the tires are the biggest problem. You're gonna race for points, your gonna run your weekly event anyway. The problem is how to deal with an invitational without having to run two events on the same weekend and find a way to do it without a lot of conflict with other tracks regular night events.

If a traveling series is going to blend with a cross section of rules with + additions, then the way to run it is with the boys on their regular night at track "X". But what to do with each local's respective points system and the issue of tires is the problem. I think the solution of show up points solves one problem, but leaves the tires as the one challenge. $600.00 for one event is dicey! That said, do what the rest of the guys in the big leagues do. Run on your old tires and then start and park, especially if all you want is your show up points. I realize that sucks from a competition point of view, let alone time and effort, but it's one way for the local guy to solve the expense issue.
