Deb, let's not twist this rule around. Surely it doesn't say you can claim those points if you "didn't want" the night to count, that is not the spirit of the rule - there have to be extenuating circumstances. Someone with the general rules please post the rule word for word here, since the arsesome website chose not to post the general rules PDF.
And anyway if you don't like it so much tell Wes to remove it AND inform the drivers. I don't disagree with your thoughts, it is a bit odd in the context you suggest. But don't pin that rule on the guy who doesn't run the track anymore.

6. POINTS AND HANDICAP
(a) The driver, not the car or number, carries the points and handicap in the 4 Cylinder Road Runners but the number and not the driver or car carries it in the Four Funs. The handicap will be based on the total points accumulated in the best three of last five race night's features. Features missed due to no-show that night will receive sixty-four (64) points per night for handicapping. Failure to make a feature (mechanical etc.) - no calculation that night.
Under "RACE PROCEDURES"
1. LINE UPS
(j) A 4 Cylinder Road Runner driver may appoint a fill-in driver a maximum of two (2) times per race year. The points will go to the registered driver of that car. The fill-in driver must drive the other driver's car, not a car of his choosing. Fill in drivers must start at the rear of each heat. If the fill-in driver qualifies the car in the heats for the front group of the feature, they will start the feature at the back of that group, If the fill-in driver qualifies for the back group of the feature, they will start at the back of that group. If the fill-in driver does not compete in the heats, and the field for the feature is not full, they start at the back of the pack. One night in June, July or August you may replace your points with a points total of 84 points. This can be used to replace your points on a night which you have had a bad night or if you need to take one night off from Sunset you still get 84 points. You will get a 6th place handicap. You must declare before midnight on the night you are using it that you are. It cannot replace a black flag - rough driving points.
i dont understand how it speaks to our professionalism as a race track when we have current staff on a public messege board bad mouthing the rules and procedures of the former management.
if its REALLY that important to explain, why not simply use the private messege function?
Spencer I'm not bashing Glen I have disagreed with many things he did and I disagreed to his face on many issues. That was one big reason I didn't work there the past 4 years.
I was informed by Ted (Thunder Tech) and Fred in the pits in regards to this rule. They both informed me that the driver had the choice to apply this once a year either to take a night off or to substitute for a poor night run. I am only repeating what I have been told and what I read in the general rules.
Nothing has changed in regards to these rules to my knowledge and Fred has copies of the General Rules in the tech shed. In regards to substituting drivers for 2 nights that rule still applies.
I'm not bashing Glen I'm mearly stating that rule doesn't fly with me. I've been in racing for 35 years I can clearly remember and have never ever at any track heard of such rules. To me a dedicated driver that earns every point deserves to win......
Thanks for posting that Harold. *thumbsup*
I guess by reading that you can take 84 points if you have a "bad night". It is differently worded then my recollection in years past - it still has the spirit of the rule, but can possibly be abused easier now. I stand informed and confused. 🙂
