Industrial Commutator Backs McLeod’s Return to NASCAR Whelen Series
7 February 2012: Keith McLeod announces his return to Barrie Speedway for the 2012 season in a bid to win his second NASCAR Whelen Series Provincial title and his second Whelen Series Track Championship. The team has secured sponsorship from Industrial Commutator in a deal that will ensure the kdm RACESPORTS team is a strong contender for feature wins and the overall title.
After a summer away from the local oval scene, it was a visit to the Speedway last summer for the inaugural Garry Reynolds Memorial invitational that planted the seed for a return this season. Seeing the great field of cars and the improvements to the show that Rick and Diane and their team had made got the competitive juices flowing again.
That led to the purchase of a car and a meeting with Dave Simpson that sealed the deal for Keith to bring the familiar 19 back to Barrie wearing the black, white and copper colours of Industrial Commutator Company.
“It is great to be going back to Barrie and I want to thank Dave and Industrial Commutator for the opportunity. We’ve got most of the crew back that helped us to that first title with a couple of key changes” said Keith. “Barrie Speedway will have a very competitive field of Late Models and we plan on adding to what will be an awesome show for the fans on Saturday nights in Oro”.
There have been 6 Late Model track champions since NASCAR started sanctioning the Saturday night races at Barrie and no repeat winners. There could be as many as 5 of those former champs vying for the double title in the 2012 season along with a fast pack of uncrowned contenders. Keith knows that with all the competition, a consistent performance is what it will take to win at the end. In his 2008 title season he had 4 wins including 14 top fives in 17 starts. His fast time of 14.299 seconds set in 2007 still stands as the Late Model record. He believes that he has all the ingredients for a title contending season in 2012 and is looking forward to opening night.
The Industrial Commutator team is competing throughout the summer of 2012 in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series at Barrie Speedway in Oro-Medonte, Ontario.
